My son attended Pinewood from when he was 5 - 18. This is a brilliant school and part of this is the wonderful input the nursery nurses have to the pupils and teachers was invaluable. Think again west Lothian council. Shame on you.

SNP government are failing this country. They must raise taxes to fund our social services like the invaluable role of nursery officers in pre school and special education.

How much money is actually going to be saved by doing this? Need a serious clear out of the people in charge if making these decisions!! Angers me so much to read of these proposals.

Please don't take away nursery nurses in schools they play a vital part! If it wasn't for a wonderful nursery nurse from Beatlie my son would have never progressed the way he did! There skills and experience are key for our children's lestning development!

I think this is a disgrace puts more pressures on teachers. Who already have a very difficult job. I am also a nursery nurse in an additional support need school and work hard for all kids in my care. I stay on late at work if I'm need to help plan / organise or prepare things for next day to help ease the pressures put on the teacher. By doing this more pressure will be put on teacher and there job will become much bigger. I also believe the children will also suffer due to this change.

As a nursery nurse working in special education (25 years experience) I know only too well how undervalued our role is..

Nursery nurses are invaluable to the day to day running if the classroom in an additional needs school. They support the teacher with preparation of lessons, discussions about individual pupil progress (which the learning assistants despite how fantastic they are) have no additional training in. Without a nursery nurse the running of a classroom would continue but without as much time for teacher planning and prepration as the teacher would be doing the jobs of the current nuresy nurse (e.g. timetables, setting up routine activites etc).

the special needs schools should keep the staff they have, they are great staff and know what they are doing, bringing in advanced support workers is no good

All of these beautiful children as well as their families deserve and need as much support as they can. Qualified and experienced nursery nurses who understand and identify with the best help and know their needs!

I feel very strongly that their is a huge need for the specialised care and attention that is given by the nursery nurses cannot be matched with the alternative scheme put forward by WLC - this is hitting the most vulnerable of society .
