As a scout leader and Space Exploration merit badge counselor, it's abhorrent that the park district would deny youth a safe and convenient place to participate in an educational hobby such as model rocketry.

I started launching rockets when I became a STEM Teacher in one of the most troubled inner cities in the country. I am now a member of my local rocket club and have moved on to work in Behavioral Special Education where I have continued to organize and run school launches and coach teams in rocketry competitions. At our club launches, we have students (some from years ago) come out with their siblings and parents to enjoy hands-on fun. In a time of heavy screen dependency, especially in our youth, I find it appalling that an entity would stop a safe outdoor activity geared towards inspiring our kids. P.S. We launch some powerful stuff at our launches and while they can be loud from the staging area, they are not loud from just a couple hundred meters. The noise issue is nonsense.

Please allow CRASH to continue to conduct model rocket launches at Bear Creek Lake Park. I have never seen an incident requiring an emergency response in the many years I have been attending launches there and feel the Park director is overreacting to any issues there may be with the group.

Model rocketry has been proven as a safe avenue for STEM education for decades. The hobby has inspired many students to become astronauts, engineers, scientists, and science teachers. As a STEM educator I have witnessed first-hand the excitement and enthusiasm for science sparked by model rocketry. To deny this opportunity to the next generation is a step in the wrong direction.

As a Level 1 NAR certified member and local club enthusiast, I can vouch for the need for this kind of hobby and exposure for young people. I fully support this petition and offer to provide remote testimony if requested.

Model Rocketry is one of the best gateways to many STEM fields. It also has a 60+ year track record of safe operation with over 500 million model rocket engines made. Loss of a facility that has been part of this activity for much of this time will only make it harder for young people who want to do something real (rather than on a screen). Now where will they go?

Model Rocketry is a safe and exciting hobby that teaches kids STEM skills as well as safety and respect for the lands they are allowed to use for launches. Safety, noise and fire danger concerns are overblown. Model rocketry, especially in a club setting with responsible, experienced adult rocketeers, is a very safe hobby that can be enjoyed by kids of all ages. I urge you to reconsider your efforts to impose restrictions on a hobby that gives kids a safe and educational alternative to many of the things they might be doing instead. Kids these days need as many positive outlets as possible. Thanks for listening!

I have launched with C.R.A.S.H. at Bear Creek several times with my children over the last 20 years. The range there has always been run very well with many safeguards in place to prevent fires, and to minimize the disruption to other guests in the park. It is sad to see that this facility will not be available for the continued use of the model rocket community, and for the future generations that will be deprived of the great learning experience that Model Rocketry provides.

Rockets are fun! We should encourage these activities rather than limit them.

Keep it open and going. You do more damage from closing than keeping it open. The club should ask for proof of claims made from shooting rockets. We are all a pretty safe bunch with good track records.

1 - Colorado property owner (C-Springs) 2 - Because of Model Rocketry I changed my attitude toward Math and ended up at USAFA! 3 - Years of excellence in Safety is to be discarded because of an opinion? 4 - If county insurance is not increasing because of this - then keep doing it.
