The Governor has confirmed the inclusion of our industry in the latest federal relief package. Our formal proposal provided the necessary framework for this decision and we are now transitioning to monitoring the distribution process.

Dear Governor Sisolak,

Your compassion and vigilance during these unprecedented times has been incredibly reassuring. Thank you for being a leader who provides a voice for all of us on the national stage, and for talking to each Nevadan in our homes and on behalf of our businesses.

As a group of Las Vegas independent restaurateurs, we are writing to you out of a significant need and in solidarity. The hospitality industry defines our town and we are proud members of this community. Las Vegas is a global culinary destination that is second to none, and we want it to stay that way.

These past few weeks, our businesses have faithfully served thousands of guests who have come to show their love and support. Without immediate action taken by your office we will not survive this crisis. Let us be clear, we fully support closures as necessary to prevent and combat the spread of COVID-19, and we are grateful to you and your office for tirelessly working towards the most appropriate solutions and are committed to following all mandates.

We can think of no better advocate for our collective cause.

We suggest that you become the voice of the restaurant and hospitality industry in securing the necessary assistance from Washington D.C., for an immediate action plan to ensure restaurants and small businesses are adequately provided for. While we are confident that your office will help our industry reach both the House and Senate, a few ideas for immediate relief we discussed would include:

  • Emergency unemployment benefits to all impacted employees;
  • Tax credit for maintaining employee health benefits;
  • Incentivizing rent and loan abatement;
  • Eliminating payroll taxes;
  • Foregoing state sales tax collections immediately;

Without an effective advocate, we will not survive this crisis. We humbly request immediate action from your office, so we can form a long-term plan to operate our businesses and inform our employees they have a secure future.

We realize the significant challenge and complexities of what we are requesting. You have the authority, passion and capability to help those in need. We trust you to take these necessary measures and to do what is right for our industry, for its people, for the city of Las Vegas and the state of Nevada.

With respect, confidence, and gratitude,

Local Chefs, Restaurateurs and the Women’s Hospitality Initiative of Las Vegas

We are currently moving toward the 100 signature threshold required to secure an official meeting with the Governor’s office staff. Please direct this link to colleagues in the hospitality sector to ensure we hit this target before our briefing later this week.

I have Iived in Las Vegas since 1973 and have been in the beverage business since 1981. Hospitality industry is all I have ever known. The retailers, restaurants and hotels have always been supportive and have always given back to the community. Please give back to them!

No restaurants = no tax collection from those businesses, its guests, and its employees, right? It would seem to be in the best interest for the government as well as the people, I would say.

We have been open for 16 years in Las Vegas serving local filipino and american food and drink. We will not survive this crisis without immediate relief as suggested in this petition.

We just opened 4.5 months ago and are devastated. Our 9 employees live paycheck to paycheck as it is and now we have to cut their hours. I don’t know if our new vegan deli will be able to survive this pandemic.

I own a small cafe restaurant in desert shores. We are trying our best to stay on top of things but it’s very hard. and this is affecting my wellbeing! As a single parent everything I do to support myself is at jeopardy and I am very frightened! I need help and support. I hope you help us all! Thank you Sonia

Some Governors are so intent on keeping their states locked down tight, and it has nothing to do with keeping their citizens safe from the coronavirus pandemic, it’s for political reasons. It's because they're terrified that a rebounding economy will Increase President Trump’s chances for a reelection success on November 3 and so they choose to punish their citizens by not opening their states. Think before you vote: President Trump’s continued economic recovery as evidence of his administration's success or Joe Biden a Career politician, ALL Talk No Action, Who has Nothing to Show for 47 years in Washington, D.C., it’s a “no brainer”.

This is not an unreasonable ask and it will change Nevada, Las Vegas in particular, forever if we do not help these businesses survive. I do think it's important to diversify our economy but this is not the way to do it.
