What country to you people live in? Your streets a public roads. Paid with TAX DOLLARS. You do not live on a PRIVATE ROAD. Get over yourselves. If you don't like the traffic I would suggest you move. Wait, I have a few suggestions: DETOUR SIGNS? A TRAFFIC Cop? Traffic Lights.. HAHA non of this will stop the traffic. Welcome to America

Were you at the Selectmen's' meeting on Monday, which focused on traffic congestion?
Interestingly, it was the Selectmen themselves who were coming up with better options than the traffic consultants they had hired in an attempt to back control of the streets here in town.
Joe Pato asked about closing Harrington Street as it had been before and was told by the consultants the idea had been considered but was impractical given today's volume of traffic. Peter Kelley suggested looking into pedestrian activated lights run with low-wattage LED's, but the consultants seemed to be unaware or uninterested. Michelle Ciccolo asked the consultants about using cobblestones to slow traffic near the Green at that awful intersection of Harrington, Hancock and Bedford. Again, this very practical notion seemed to be nowhere on the consultants' radar.
The upshot of all this was to hire yet another traffic engineering firm to provide "a new set of eyes." It seems to me, that traffic engineers mainly respond to one metric, and one metric only, which is "Level of Service" meaning how long a car has to wait in line at rush hour. Their solution "in the interest of safety" is invariably a stoplight, or a rotary involving right-of-way land acquisition.
The Selectmen seemed disappointed and unimpressed, as did the folks in the audience.
If the town is going to do more hiring, let's look at planners who can take in the whole picture, people whose job it is to take all kind of metrics into account, given the needs of our many citizens: parents, kids, strollers, drivers, shoppers, bicyclists, visitors, dog walkers. What for, or example, is Lexington's "Level of Service" when it comes to walkability? People want to live in a town where it's pleasant to walk around. Some planners even measure the amount people are willing to willing to pay for this privilege. Increase parking meter rates and people tend to use off-street lots more often, rather than circling and circling the

Burlington and Simonds intersection across from Kinneens Park is our bugaboo. People really start to speed up on this stretch of road. And there are lots of kids etc. using the park. It's gotten noticeably worse in the 5 years we've lived here. I like the speed limit reader on Spring Street.

As a fellow SOLS-MATE, I'm feeling that it would be a lot better to SLOW DOWN than SIGNALIZE. Town Selectman Peter Kelley and the We The People group are helping to lead the way on this.
Wouldn't you say 20 IS PLENTY for LEXINGTON (as it is now in Lincoln?)

We need a major traffic study town-wide before we start installing traffic lights all over town. We also need our selectmen to be amenable to non-traffic light solutions for safety, efficiency and integrity of the history and beauty of kexington

The speed and volume of traffic has lowered the quality of life for residents of these streets. Let's get active and retake control of our own streets, let's figure out how to slow people down and perhaps reduce the volume of traffic.

I am a commuter who drives through Lexington every day. In addition, I grew up in Lexington, and only moved away recently. I very much support this petition! Traffic has become dangerously bad!

Where are the the police in all this? Growing up here there were speed traps and the police monitored intersections such as the one at Adams and Hancock. You want safer streets? How about a greater showing of police presence?
