I am starting this petition to stop fishing in the Ross Sea. In 1996 a single fishing vessel from New Zealand started fishing in the Ross Sea. This led to ships from over 20 different countries to start fishing here. The fishery is now removing around 3,000 tonnes of tooth fish from the Ross Sea every year. The tooth fish are then sold as Chilean sea bass at high end restaurants all around the world. The fishery is unintentionally destroying the natural food web. The Ross Sea is also being used by scientists to study the marine life here. By removing large amounts of tooth fish, the scientists cannot record proper data and study the ecosystem properly, because it is being tainted by human presence.
