Utah County needs this arena! Every time I've been with my wife on a weekend date, its been packed. Utah is known for how well we've taken care of our olympic venues after the olympics. We need to continue that example!

My daughter, Stephanie Siswick, is a coach at this rink. I have spent hundreds of hours with her in rinks as she grew up. The life lessons kids gain from hard work, fun, and sometimes failure while engaging in this sport are invaluable. Please don't take this rink away from all of these families!

First looking at this from a non financial side, please consider the true impact this would have on the community. This is a special place for children and families in your community. Skating is like no other sport and is an absolute asset to offer in your community. Looking from a financial side, we are headed in an Olympic year. Every rink across the country is going to see a significant increase in their numbers. The year before the Olympic is historically the lowest for programs around the country and the Olympic year is the strongest. I urge you on so many levels to consider these factors.

Until my injury, this was where I trained several days a week which training took me to Solo Dance Nationals for ice dance. I was planning to return to training this summer to get ready to compete again. My story of training to compete nationally is one of many to come from this rink. Moreover, the final decision to take the job at BYU over jobs in other states and countries was this rink. Not only that, but I've helped organise 2 MAJOR figure skating competitions called sectionals for US Figure SKating, the last stop for skaters to qualify for nationals. These competitions brought in 10s of thousands of dollars just to the rink, let alone the local area. And the officials who work at international competitions were beyond impressed with what our rink provided in terms of the facility itself and to the local community. Just because skating isn't important to members of the commission doesn't mean it isn't a hub for a large portion of the community. I have known many students at BYU and UVU who have only come to school locally because there was a local rink for skating and hockey. Lose the rink, you'll lose a lot more local revenue than you realise, and you'll cost a number of people their family-friendly livelihoods. If SL County can support 3 rinks which aren't remotely as heavily used as ours, and Park City can support one, then there is no justification for pulling the plug on an Olympic Legacy facility which is the only real rink between here and Nevada. Don't make me take my tax dollars to another state or country by closing the rink. Because this is one of the last things keeping me here.

I understand the county has decided to pull the funding for Peaks Ice Arena. My children and I have been skating at peaks for years from learn to skate to hockey. My children’s involvement with the arena has been a huge part of their lives and their development. They have not just learned to skate there - they have built confidence, learned discipline, learned how to be part of a team, learned sportsmanship, learned perseverance, stayed healthy, and built lasting friendships. They learned these life skills from the wonderful instructors and coaches that have dedicated their lives to these kids by teaching at Peaks. Without the funding from the county, to which I pay taxes, Peaks will close its doors and my children, along with hundreds of others, will be displaced. Not to mention all of the instructors, coaches and staff at Peaks that will be out of jobs! Peaks plays such an important part of our community and I can tell you your actions will have devastating consequences. I implore you to reconsider this reactionary move and reinstate the funding before it is too late!
