Save our hedge

I fully agree with the sentiment in the petition; this is an absurd overreach and shows a complete failure of the council to responsibly allocate scant, publicly-funded, resources to matters which are a priority for residents.

Since the hedge is not obstructing the footpath or highway, before any irreversible works are undertaken, the council should provide details of (1) the statutory power they rely on, (2) specific evidence of any public-safety risk or statutory nuisance, (3) any arboricultural/ecological survey relied upon, and (4) an explanation why proportionate pruning would not be sufficient. They should also confirm whether any nesting birds were surveyed for and whether the Hedgerows Regulations/Local Plan biodiversity policies were considered. Councils must act proportionately and avoid disturbing nesting birds under the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981. Absolutely ridiculous!!!

They help cool properties provide wildlife habitat esp bird and hedgehog and provideprivacy while improving mental health as green not manmade

It’s seems over zealous to take such drastic action that would inevitably kill such a lovely and healthy hedge.

Whole heartedly agree the hedge will be home to a lot of wildlife.

Ridiculous idea to take the hedge down. Were supposed to be helping the planet- we need more green and homes for wildlife

The hedge is well maintained, and does not obstruct, so why does it need to be cut back/removed?

It would be such a shame to see this gorgeous hedge gone!!

It’s a beautiful hedge and does not affect the path at all, we walk past it regularly and certainly does not cause any problems to walk past.

Please allow this hedge to stay, it not a hazard and does not inconvenience anyone but allows nature to thrive and looks in keeping with the surrounding neighbourhood. Replacing it with a fence would be dreadful on so many levels.

This is such a beautiful hedge, adding character to the corner of both roads. I regularly walk my dogs past this property and I've never felt that this hedge was impeding my way. I cannot understand why the council would want to remove a natural barrier and ecosystem that is supporting wildlife whilst also absorbing CO2 and water from our overrun water system.

Please keep a living breathing hedge which is great for local wildlife.

The loss of the hedge will provide less wildlife area and less privacy for the owners. I live at no6 Randall

This is not an overgrown or unkempt hedge, nor is it one that is causing disruption or distress to anyone, it is clearly a well maintained hedge and it is hard to see how it is doing anything other than improving the local environment. Requesting that this hedge should be harshly pruned to the point where it would no doubt die is an extremely shortsighted request that will detrimentally affect the local area and wildlife with little or no actual benefit to local residents. I urge the Council to reconsider their stance on this.
