We, the citizens of Minneapolis, Demand that the Commissioners of Minneapolis Parks and Recreation let the existing gardens in front of address 1261 W Minnehaha Parkway remain “AS IS” and rescind the order to “Cease and Desist”.
This garden actually adds beauty to the Minneapolis park experience. The abundance of flowers helps the pollinators of Minnesota. The retaining wall helps erosion and runoff from entering the parkway street. And the decorations in the gardens are delighting the children and many others who see them.
1261 W Minnehaha Pkwy in Minneapolis. We have a wonderful front yard garden full of flowers and various decorations. This includes a garden in the boulevard. We are now in need of public support.
The Minneapolis Park Board is trying to make us remove the garden in the boulevard and a newly constructed retaining wall that we built last fall. We had no idea it was built on park (public) owned land. As most people, we assumed our property extended to the edge of the sidewalk.
Now, after someone has presumptuously reported something wrong to the Park Board, they have ordered us to take down the wall and restore the boulevard, even though the gardens all existed many years before the purchase of this property. We, along with hundreds of others, think this is an injustice. We feel we are being singled out because we know of many other properties with similar infractions. These other properties are not of interest to the park board for some reason.
We have offered to talk to members of the Park Board, but no one has responded in three weeks.
Since you are a garden lover, we are hoping you have an interest in this story. The more people made aware of this, the better our neighborhoods will benefit. We believe the Park Board has better things to take care of. And maybe some relaxation of certain restrictions are in order.

This garden has been there for years and is not detrimental. Senior centers, adult day care, and nursing homes bring residents to view the garden. Common sense asks, “Why can’t people (including the Park Board) leave well enough alone?”
Please consider dropping this case. I see retaining walls built up to the sidewalk at almost every property that has one. It feels unfair to make these people redo theirs. The garden is beautiful and appreciated by many, please leave it intact. Thank you for your kind consideration.

C’mon park board. Here are individuals who are taking pride in their property and doing something to beautify a parcel that would likely be dying due to salt burn that the plows churn up every winter. Please set your principals aside and use some common sense.
This garden is lovely. It is a destination for some. Plantings should NOT be removed: there are boulevard gardens throughout the city; don’t single out this one. The pollinator plants also help our environment.
Please preserve this place of beauty. It is well maintained, a thriving eco system that is necessary for the many pollinators which are already in short supply
I support permitting the encroachment and, going forward, better communication by the MPRB to the property owners who live adjacent to MPRB property.

I purposely divert my walk from the “creek path” to this sidewalk just to enjoy this beautiful garden. Whimsical and a joy to the spirit. I would prefer MPRB spend their time getting our beautiful fountains around the parks flowing again.
