My kids (8&11) have grown up living across the road from this field and have always loved to go and have a game of footy or run around with their friends etc, we also take our dog on this field for a run about, like ALOT of others do too! It shouldn't be closed off to the public it's just a totally stupid idea!!

Am not having any off it . If I can fight for this field to remain open then I will . I hear all about dog muck !!! Your in a arena that’s coved in foxes. That poo just like a dog . And a fence won’t stop that . But you need to have a look on the inside too . The amount of times the ground man has been asked by us dog walkers to pick up his own dogs foul as he’s not watched his own dog . Not a grand example to use. It will all so effect beckmans shops the amount of people who pop in to get a coffee or tea on a morning walk to the field. Like I said . It’s been open to us since I was been a child .I live in sycamore avenue and I will 10000000”% not take this lying down and am sure people on the Hillheads when we do the door to door will be unhappy about it

Ridiculous idea, this feel has always been available for people to walk across and use! No fun for children in a safe large grass area if this is all fenced off! Selfish

The cricket club are more than happy to meet with anyone concerned about the plans but there needs to be some balance.
The ground was built on an old rubbish tip and has always been a cricket pitch since the 1950’s. It was originally fenced off completely but over the years the fence was vandalised and destroyed and has been completely open since the 1980’s. Any local map you look at will have it marked as a sports pitch. At present the only legal ROWs are still in tact and will remain so. No thoroughfare will be affected.
In recent years the clubhouse has been vandalised, broken into and we have seen an increase in anti social behaviour in the area.
In terms of the playing pitch we have tried putting a rope around the square in the middle to protect it (with a “please keep off sign”) but the ropes have been stolen several times so we don’t bother now.
Before we play or practice we have to do a full sweep of the playing area to pick up dog dirt, drugs needles, glass and other rubbish. Most dog walkers are vigilant and pick up after their dogs but not all. Add to that, some dog walkers have recently been shoving their poo bags down our drains deliberately causing a blockage!!
Also in terms of safety we have in the last 12 months, as a small example, had children training, narrowly missed by off road dirt bikers, bottles smashed on our pavilion base and opposition players abused. We even have some people who insist on walking across the pitch whilst we are playing a game endangering the players and themselves.
We want to provide a clean and safe environment for organised sports and in recent years we have started to coach over a hundred youngsters and that is growing all the time. They deserve the playing area to be safe.
If other sports clubs are using the ground at present then they shouldn’t really be as the cricket club pays for it. However, once the area is secured we would be more than happy to give them access within a formal and free arrangement.

The cricket club think they have exclusive rights to this land. They do not! It was donated for public use not to be used for a couple of hours a week when the sun shines. What a disgrace!

This site was originally a Victorian Park like Northumberland Park in North Shields. Purely for the people of Whitley! Please don't remove access for the community who use it regularly.

I’ve live around here all my life & played & sledged on the cricket field when I was younger now my grandson does now pleas don’t take what fun they hav when it snows

This field is used everyday by the local children in our area it would be a shame to fence it off. Put the money into a car park instead of blocking access to our streets
