It sounds to me as though you who want to cripple the Farmer's Market are trying to:
1. Destroy people's livelihoods
2. Force the locals to buy and eat toxic pesticide-laden mass-produced food
3. Kill small family-owned and -operated businesses AND
4. Make those of us at the end of the world even MORE dependent on food that was picked prematurely and shipped long distances (which can be a hazard to the local ecosystem as well, because with or without pesticides foreign bugs and spiders will inevitably catch a ride on the produce or in the packaging.)
Please keep our food local. In fact, you should encourage people to grow and sell their own produce - better for development of a healthy immune system well-equipped for dealing with local allergens. Local farm-grown produce tastes better, is better for us, is MUCH easier to trace for non-GMO purposes! Also, families who grow their own food and food for their community raise kids who understand the value of hard work, have that necessary survival skill of cultivating food (because, you know, food is kind of important) AND understand the consequences if they ignore their responsibilities.
Conclusion: locally-grown food that you find at a farmer's market enriches more than just the locals' bellies. It also enriches the local culture and SHOULD NOT be pushed aside in favor of Monsanto's poison.

Farmer's markets are a for-profit asset to a community, not a detriment. They encourage community, and are an essential opportunity for townsfolk to purchase farm-fresh goods. I love the farmer's markets in both my hometowns--Olympia and Long Beach. If council members have questions or concerns regarding the value of Farmer's markets to a community, I suggest you contact the Olympia city council. You may find it enlightening.

Three hours on a Friday afternoon, once a week....isn't going to hurt anyone's business in Long Beach. We need to support our local farmers who are growing REAL food! They aren't getting wealthy and it's obviously their passion that drives them to do what they do, rather than the dollar.
