I am a regular at The Claregate and have enjoyed many a meal there. All my family use this pub and it would be a very sad loss to our community.

Yet another case of Marston's not considering the local community. These venues are suffering from the cheap supermarket deals and the excessive prices charged to regulars.

Wolverhampton Council should not be considering granting planning permission for houseing on the site at all. The Claregate is an excellent family pub which enhances the lives and leisure opportunities of the people living in that area in addition to providing a building of particularly pleasing appearance. The council should also not have granted planning permission for the Tesco development.

A lovely family pub, which holds plenty of memories for myself and family. It would be a shame for the people of wolverhampton to lose another decent pub to spend time in.

It was just a case of when this would happen not if , it is the £££ signs from both Marstons and I guess somebody sitting on the planning department at the council who will eventually agree for a change of use for the site.
Marstons promised that it would be refurbished when Tescos was built so what has happened to the funds that were supposedly set aside to do this 2 years ago. Leaving it in a run down state is just part of the plan to get things agreed.
Shame on both Marstons and the Council if this sale goes ahead.

Architecturally it's actually quite an impressive looking building and it should be saved for that reason alone. OK it could do with a lick of paint but that's just Marston's being neglectful.
It would be a shame to see yet another set of cheap looking modern housing or flats built here. At one time Claregate and Tettenhall were once the affluent parts of Wolverhampton but the area is fast becoming run down and generic looking. We must try to keep our heritage and architecture.
