The pub is an institution. It should be refurbished as promised following the Tesco opening. This is not a quiet pub suffering from a lack of business and dying a slow death- I would like to know Marston's justifications. The current manager is doing a great job of revitalising the business, without, it would appear, any help from Marston's! Shame on you Marston's!

If Marstons don't want it then sell it to another pub related concern who will keep the pub going. There's plenty of other land where houses can be built so hands off our local!!

The Claregate is there for so many people for so many different occasions such as birthdays, christenings, funeral wakes . Closing it would be a major loss to the community

This has been part of the claregate community for years. Please leave it alone. We don't need more houses.

Why would any brewery with an ounce of respect for its customers destroy its own heritage ? I really wish we had a pub of this character in our neighbourhood , Fight to keep this pub open

marstons can't close this it's a landmark pub, just needs investment and would be the busiest pub around
