Save our Children’s Mercy PICU Physicians

My granddaughter has been in your PICU off and on since birth. May granddaughter is now 8 years old and still under the care of the PICU Doctors. I thank God for them.

Children's Mercy is the shining beacon for children across the region. I spent two weeks there with my own daughter 36 years ago and my granddaughters are patients there now BECAUSE of the well recognized expertise. NOTHING should be done to diminish that skill and experience. Find another way!

We also stayed in CMH PICU. Our daughter had 3 OHS before 8 months old. And we slept by her side the entire six month PICU stay and beyond. We have such admiration for the entire hospital and especially the PICU teams.

I’m a pediatrician who trained at children’s mercy. These physicians are vital to our success in the care of children. THESE PHYSICIANS. Specifically. They are excellent teachers, communicators, and caregivers. Replacing them is a mistake.

I’m a pediatrician in Kansas City and had the honor of working with these physicians during training. You are doing a disservice to our children by firing these physicians.

I watched these doctors fight for Zai, try new procedures, cry & celebrate small steps

We are one of those families whose daughter, Kalyn, was just down the hall from Zei, also on ECMO. Kalyn arrived by plane and was immediately placed on ECMO to save her life while sepsis shut down her small body. We raced by car from 3 hours away to meet her; alive, for which we had only hoped. Over the next month, the PICU team gave her amazing care through ups and downs as her health would improve, only to have small setbacks. While on ECMO, she went in for several procedures under anesthesia. We then spent another month on another floor as she went through rehab and continued to heal. Our daughter continues to get better today, 2 1/2 years later, because of the care of Children's Mercy AAKC PICU team that were instrumental in saving her life.

Please don’t take away experience for the sake of money! I believe you will lose out in the long run!

My daughter was in the PICU for a couple nights recovering from RSV. We were treated with the upmost compassion and excellent care. We were scared parents who saw our daughter struggling to breath and they gave us the confidence to trust in their expertise. We were blessed that our stint and the hospital was uneventful. I am grateful for the excellent care we received, especially in the PICU. I trained at CMH during my neurology residency and saw the complexities that those who work in the PICU deal with. They provide world class care for our community. I don’t know all of the details of what happened that led to the decision. I do know how excellent this team is and how much they will be missed.

I am saddened by the state of medicine and the fact that it is now a business run by people who only see numbers.

This is horrible. Physicians need to be valued more than ever.

The answer is never to do away with experienced staff. You are risking the lives of vulnerable children.

Please reconsider your decision, our community counts on their expertise!

Consistency is critical to quality care. The team at CMH is incredibly dedicated and talented. Removing the entire team in this way is reckless.

As an ICU RN for 18 years, I have seen the difference experience makes in patient care. Please listen to Brie’s story. Would you want your child who is critically ill being managed by someone w years of experience or someone who is fresh out of school.

Jenna is my sister. She gives everything to her job and her patients, and this was a giant slap in the face from a new administrative team at CMH whose bottom line is more important than lives. I used to work at CMH. I've seen the numbers. Cut the bloated administration's salaries--the hospital needs doctors, not bean counters.

Please reconsider your decision. Don't devalue Children's Mercy.
