Save our Children’s Mercy PICU Physicians

What a beautiful testimony to an amazing group of physicians.

I had the opportunity to train at Children’s Mercy during med school and residency. It is in part because of the excellent physicians with years and years of experience that I have become the physician I am today. The physicians on your staff are not only responsible for the kiddos they save, but also for the training of hundreds of doctors in the area lucky enough to spend time in their clinics and your hospital. Please do not lessen the quality of your facility by terminating experienced physicians in exchange for midlevels or new graduates. I worked along these doctors for almost 8 years. We were not only a Healthcare team but a PICU family.

I have heard countless stories of the lives that have been saved because of this group of physicians.

My son wouldn’t be alive, today, if it were not for the phenomenal neurosurgeon and critical care team at CM.

I will always be thankful for the care my 1 year old grandson received 9 years ago. I tell people all the time about the wonderful drs and nurses that were with us during this very scary time. I would hate to see the value change.

Let them continue to save lives

A huge mistake.. for financial gain! Patients first!

I understand that times are tough and financial decisions are agonizing but for once I’d like to see the bottom line be what’s best for these most vulnerable patients. It seems to me that Children’s Mercy has a reputation for having the best PICU doctors/team. It’s why people go there. What is going to happen to the bottom line when that is no longer true?

I have worked with them for 33 years. They are an outstanding group! It will take years to recreate what they have accomplished. Please reconsider the decision.

The most vulnerable children deserve the best! Please consider what level of experience & expertise you and your fellow executives eould choose for your children &/or grandchildren. Respectfully.

LOVE WILL NoT undermine the confidence of all those in our region in the quality of Critical Care available at Children’s Mercy Hospital. LOVE WILL NoT strip critically injured or ill, medically complex and chronic pediatric patients (my daughter included) of their current, incredibly competent, seasoned and most-experienced-in-our-area, top-quality Critical Care Team of providers. LOVE WILL NoT act outside the core values foundational to every aspect of Children's Mercy by compromising the quality of Critical Care available to the most vulnerable pediatric patients in our area and by mistreating highly-valued, irreplaceable members of that Critical Care Team. LOVE WILL NoT take short-cuts in achieving the BEST Critical Care Team possible for pediatric patients,(especially while falsely claiming it is ‘in the best interest of it’s patients and families) for financial reasons. LOVE WILL NoT further burden the families of medically complex, fragile health children who already have too much to worry & wonder about, by causing them increased levels of concern over the quality of Critical Care they will receive by unfamiliar, inexperienced, unseasoned, ‘EARLY IN THEIR CAREER’ Intensivists!!!! PLEASE — RETHINK — THIS — DISASTROUS — DECISION!! My daughters life could very well depend on it!!!!

These physicians are not replaceable in terms of experience, commitment and skill. They must be retained to maintain the quality and reputation of the hospital.

As a former Administrative Case Manager for children who were medically fragile, I have heard many family members praising the care given their children in the PICU. When your child is admitted to the hospital in respiratory distress, the child and family need to see familiar faces that they trust. Find other places to cut your budget, not by eliminating caring, experienced staff that many CMH children and their families, have come to know and trust.

There is no replacement for quality, integrity, compassion, and especially experience!

I used my federal stimulus money to donate to Children’s Mercy. I did this because of the extraordinary work done by Dr. Jenna Miller and her colleagues.
