It is shameful how veteran physicians with the knowledge and experience to save lives are being tossed aside to cut costs. I’m sure you will learn the saying “a penny wise a pound foolish.”

Children’s Mercy was one of my top choices for residency in 2005 because of the amazing amount of both clinical and teaching experience of the faculty. Without that, the institution loses it’s soul... for money. Sad to see such a great institution losing it’s mission and direction, and hoping that other local institutions will be taking over the mantle of excellent pediatric care.

Patients deserve physician led care. NP and PAs, although valuable members of the team, are not a substitute for the expertise of a board certified physician. Patients deserve physician led care.

I worked in residency (EM at KU, did a PICU rotation at CMH) with all the amazing and dedicated intensivists in the PICU and currently work in EM in the area and transfer many super sick pediatric patients to CMH. This is a terrible decision and is tragic for our community to lose such experienced and dedicated physicians.

As a physician I know that there is absolutely NO substitute for experience and clinical wisdom. In an ICU setting that is literally the difference between life and death. We do not go for the cheapest doctors or physician extenders available in patient care.
You save money on noncritical supplies where the best quality is not essential. You bid out laundry services not critical care doctors.
This is yet another sad example of the corruption of medicine by mediocre business school grads who care more about their bonuses than patients.

Who would you want caring for YOUR children other than the very best?
Patients deserve experienced and well-trained physicians to care for them. Corporate profits should not come before safe care of patients.
This is putting profits above people's lives. Blatant disregard for life or quality of care
