The work has been paused and a full consultation is now officially on the table. I am truly stunned by the outcome but this belongs entirely to you for sticking with it when it felt like no one was listening.

SAVE OUR BRIDLEWAY:

MEON VALLEY DISUSED RAILWAY LINE

PETITION

We the undersigned are concerned about the urbanisation of a local beauty spot that has been enjoyed by the local community for generations. We wish it to be preserved for generations to come.

We the undersigned call on those responsible for the works to the Meon Valley Disused Railway Line, "The Meon Valley Trail" to postpone work to allow the following to take place:

1. Full consultation with the local community, environmental groups and other interested parties about the upgrading of the surface of the railway and the widening of access points along the railway

2. An agreement to be reached about the most appropriate surface for the railway line, to meet the needs of the local community

3. An agreement to be reached about the appropriate size of the proposed access points along the railway line, to ensure the safety of all users

I logged on this morning to see we have crossed one thousand signatures and I am honestly stunned. This movement belongs entirely to the people who care about our trail, so please know that all of this progress is down to your efforts.

This is a walk I enjoyed as a child 40 years ago and should be protected for future generations. It is a haven for wildlife and full of wild flowers. Don't turn it into a road. It isn't necessary and will lose its charm and affect the wildlife.

I've walked from Wickham to Meonstoke using this trail a few times and I have never found it to be inaccessible at any point. My horsey mates are gutted that the surface is no longer fit for certain types of riding, nor for their unshod horses.

I spent many happy hours riding down the railway line, sometimes with my husband walking with me. Unfortunately I would no longer be able to ride there due to the surface as my horse has health issues. I am heartbroken to see what has happened to a beloved bridleway

Bridleways have never been so precious as our raods have got much more and much raster traffic on them. We can ride our old ponies well into our (and the pony's) old age - so please protect these extremely important ancient routes for ALL our future generations

There are hardly any safe off road places to ride our horses we have been using the old railway for over 25 years. People box their horses from miles away to enjoy riding on that old railway line the hard surface is not horse friendly.

Please don't urbanise a beautiful stretch of the Meon Valley - I'm sure there is something more productive and meaningful that this money could be spent on. As a mountain biker I like the current surface, I do not want to be cycling down a paved road!!!

This has been an appaing waste of tax payers money and should be investigated thoroughly for not only its lack of success but also its total lack of transarency and consultation! Disgusting

Would just like to say i live near this line and since the work have not had any bats visit my garden. I could typically pick up at least 6 with my bat detector nightly and now none !! Not too worried about the surface more worried about the bat roosting trees that were removed. Terrible ... something that carries a massive fine as well! Perhaps something that could be used in this battle?
