Save our Breastfeeding Support Groups from budget cuts

These groups are being cut all over the country. This is an invisible scandal that is effecting the health of mothers and babies everywhere.

I wish there had been a group like this when I had my first baby in 1972.

I really struggled breastfeeding my first son and I only managed with all the support from the breast feeding midwives and the support group that was at Petteril Bank.

Breastfeeding rates and support are woefully low in this country - please don't reduce them any further.

If it wasn't for my local breast feeding support group, I wouldn't have breast fed my little boy. It was through their support and advice that I learned the right technic for holding my baby. And their encouragement kept me going when I thought I wasn't doing very well, they made me believe in myself. Because breast feeding isn't as easy as it sounds and looks.

Every mum deserves to have access to trained breastfeeding support and by closing this group you will be doing mums across Cumbria a huge disservice. Without the proper support it has been shown time and time again that mums will simply stop breastfeeding before they want to. Breastfeeding saves this country millions of pounds each year and should be at the forefront of government agenda and funding.

These groups need all the support they can get as without them so many of us would have struggled and gave up. It's also a great way to meet new friends who are going through the same thing as you.

This sort of support is so important. I believe that the bf support group I attended was the reason I was successfully able to bf. In addition it provided a ready made group of friends with small babies -so vital for new mums!

Breastfeeding mums need these support groups to help them successfully breastfeed their babies and if this service ceases to exist mums will be left with little support or social network

This cut makes no sense when midwives are trying their best to encourage mothers to breast feed!

short term cuts in breastfeeding support = increased spending on Nhs in the long term.

Local support groups are exremely important to new mums and dads, It brings mums together where they can also discuss anything that is worrying them about their child. Experience from other mums on anything a new mum is worried about is helpful, supporting, comforting and brings relief.

It's so important to have local support to help mums to breastfeed, and there's definitely not enough of this in the North West, so please don't make further cuts!

Support for breastfeeding mums is essential, I for one probably couldn't have been successfully breastfeeding 8 months in and counting without the support of my local groups!

breastfeeding support groups are so vital to new mums successfully breastfeeding. it is not always a natural thing to get the hang of straight away and face to face help is so amazing, you get practical anf emotional support at these groups both of which are vital to new mums!

An invaluable resource offering much needed support in the early days and providing an opportunity to discuss anything and everything as babies develop. The skills and rapport of the leader with us Mums are crucial to the groups' success. (Wendy does a fabulous job at Belah.) It's difficult to see how the service could continue with much less qualified volunteers, as has been suggested.
