Once a mature tree is cut down, it will be generations before another can take its place. Why doesn’t this council realize they have a unique treasure as find ways other than destroying it to earn money while keeping it alive? Where is creative thought in Maryland?

This first is apart of the natural order, we are STUDENT, young people, always on the go and engrossed in technology. Yet, almost 400 of us have taken the time to sign this petition to show how much we care for this first. Just imagine how much the community and older residents will feel to lose this part of their history.

Mature growth forests are essential and rare. They hold the answers to so many questions. They provide habitat, act as filtration buffers, and could reveal immeasurable benefits through scientific research. Ballfields are a dime a dozen and provide occasional distraction from reality.
Wise up and do the right thing here.

This forest might be logged because of one thing.....the GREED of the chair of the Wicomico Council. He does not have the best interests of the people in mind.

I would love to hike these trails with my children and family! I wish I had known about this forest. There is not enough stuff like this in our area! I have been wishing to find something like this.

This environment is irreplaceable and it seems in additional bad taste to log memorial trees. Regardless, one of the things we love about the Eastern Shore is its natural beauty and open spaces. If we destroy these we never get them back - and the Eastern Shore will look more like every other place. I think this is something we want to avoid and I support the preservation of Pirate's Wharf Memorial Forest in its current state.
