Both my boys benefit from attending OJ Sports and I'd like to keep it that way.

I thought our children were to do more physical activities. We should be encouraging more clubs like this to be set up. Over the years all my boys have gone to clubs helped and run by John/OJ Sports. Kids need to be active and he can do that and you should help him.

I have 2 sons who have been going to Oj's for over 2 years now. One of my sons was not particularly keen on sports so I am extremely grateful that OJ has such a brilliant club. The activities are varied but more importantly they get all kids of all abilities being active and having FUN. It is good value for money which makes it affordable for me to let 2 of my sons attend. Hopefully common sense will prevail and Oj can get on with what he does best!

Council shouldn't be so short sighted

At our school, the parents fundraise to ensure that all children in P1&P2 benefit for 12 weeks every school year, for free. We discussed having a charge & "free places" eg for low income families, but we didn't want any disincentives - because as parents we know how important being confident in physical ability means kids are overall healthier, more confident, and more able to learn. The Council charging for this service will increase price, mean we have to charge, and reduce participation. The pennies raised by the council won't begin to dent their budget issues. So just who is going to benefit from this decision? It won't be the kids.

This after school sports club offered by OJ is an ideal way to get children more active, which in these days is so important as more and more children are becoming overweight and obese. It offers a taste of a wide variety of different sports, so children can see what they like and as they grow older they can begin to specialise in one particular sport that they particularly enjoy. My daughter was lacking in confidence and did not really enjoy physical activity very much until she started OJ's class. It would be such a shame if any of these classes were stopped. The council should be subsidising the classes, not making money from them.

I understand there are financial pressures on Highland Council. However, this is not the area that should be targeted to increase income or cover costs. We have a duty to provide children with activities that get them involved in sports and exercise. OJ-sports does exactly that. The activities are varied, fun, competitive and inclusive. They teach and encourage team. The head coach is an excellent role model for all the children and the assistant coaches are a credit to him. The head coach is always supporting the children at their school activities whether it is cross country, school sports or Christmas Fayre's. He is there and involved. We need to retain and encourage people with his talent and aptitude for involving children in sports and exercise. To jeopardise this by putting finances ahead of sports and exercise for children is deeply saddening. The cost for use of the school facilities would make OJ-Sports financially unviable at the current cost to children (I am sure this applies to most after school activities). If the cost is passed on to the children to allow this service to continue, ultimately it would be the most disadvantaged children that would not be able to attend due to the cost. This does not sit comfortabley with me. Neither should it for Highland Council. More in-depth consideration needs to be given to this.

Allowing this would be detrimental to all kids but also the community, where there are enough difficulties gaining access to a variety of groups/clubs amd not just sports. Any hope of other activities starting or being available will disappear. Lets see some sense by removing these charges or simply for HC to forward these fees to the respective schools who can then build on this. Dont penalise the children for errors made by the council in other areas.

The importance of having these dedicated sessions is to show our kids the importance of what OJ is offering, these are paramount at an early stage in a child's life, why....helps with their co ordination, balance, self confidence, to share, importance of health and mixing with all their friends. Why deprive the children of this if schools are open anyway. What will the kids do now, eat more ! Reduce their activities, means no fitness development. A qualified person to deliver these programmes to kids is key. Hope u get somewhere with this fingers crossed

This is an excellent after school activity for our children, run in their own school at an affordable rate. Any charge levied for use of the school hall, will ultimately be a charge levied against the pupils for the use of their own school facilities. This would appear to be in conflict with the core aim of encouraging the use of a first class facility built for school pupils and their community.

Come on highland council, where has your rational thinking gone? OJ sports is a fantastic club that provides excellent opportunities for all children to participate in lots of different sporting activities. My two children love attending OJ's sessions. They have both benefitted from everything that OJ has done with them over the past couple of years. OJ has taught my son to believe in himself and his confidence has grown massively in the 2 years that he had been going to the classes. OJ is a great role model and the kids all love and respect him. Whilst I fully understand that in the current economical climate budgets need to be tightened, I feel very strongly that charging OJ Sports extortionate amounts to promote health and fitness is not the best way to go about it. Not only do our children benefit from attending OJ Sports classes the schools also benefit financially from OJ holding his sessions there. To me it is a no brainier.........OJ Sports equates to healthy and happy kids and it would be devastating it was no longer able to continue.

This is a fantastic amenity for the children young people of Inverness and surrounds. OJ and staff are great motivators, which leads to high levels of fitness, it's fun, exciting and very reasonably priced making it affordable to all, the Highland council does not want to loose this childe friendly service that OJ sports provides.
