Long term, I would prefer to see the gigantic county-wide districts broken into smaller, more manageable, more representative and more responsive parts, many of which would have found a way to safely offer in-person learning to all grades. Because that has not happened, emergency “learning scholarships” are essential to the future of our children.

Many children with special needs are being left behind during the pandemic. Families with children with special needs depend heavily on the support the public school system provides, especially students in regional programs who are more impacted by their disabilities. Many children with special needs are unable to engage in the remote learning format & thus are NOT being taught by the public school system or receiving ancillary therapies. As a mother of twins with special needs I see the the Wake County School System as failing to be proactive in developing a concrete plan to get our most vulnerable children into brick & mortar school will they receive the education & therapy they are entitled to by law.

I have a child with ADHD who has a 504 plan and her principal told me that as long as she was in the classroom they could accommodate her plan but in this virtual learning environment there was nothing she could do.

As a CMS parent we are devastated by the endless closures which are causing lapses in education that may never be regained. The state must act on behalf of NC children.

Children across the county are struggling. Honor parents choice. Do what other school systems (large and small) have done successfully. Put our children back in school safely; it is possible!
