This is the last few golf courses that is affordable and is a great place for beginners. I took my kids here when they were little and 20 years later we still play golf together.

We need to keep the golf course. We don’t need a surf lagoon inland. That’s what the beach is for.
We do not need high density housing on Irvine Ave.
Please save the golf course.

Let’s start with: I’m an avid surfer and agree that a wave pool in our backyard is enticing. Yes, it’s cool. It’s a fun idea. But everyone learns how to play golf at The Mat’s. And it boasts the best sports bar in town, Original Pizza. We would be dissolving a Newport historical landmark in order to create another rich-people-only athletic club funded by 2 dudes who used their inherited trust funds from real estate mogul families to put their stamp on the city. This will not be an inclusive spot to hang out. The price to participate will be unaffordable on purpose to block outsiders from using it, and the money it does bring in will only benefit those who already have more than enough. We have unlimited coastline one mile from the site. This is a vanity project for a handful of people to sip champagne on the top deck and marvel at all they’ve accomplished (purchased with money they didn’t earn).

We are a family community but, we are slowly eliminating places where family and friends gather to watch games, and golf. Everywhere in Newport Beach is by membership. Do not take away our public golf course and create a mini Santa Monica. More housing, more traffic, and more crime.

It takes me 20 minutes on Irvine Avenue to drive a mile doing the traffic hours now imagine having all those units built see how the traffic would be after!
