The NCRD swim program is simply wonderful and maintaining weekly lessons should be a top priority for the school district. Nothing is more important than the safety of our children, absolutely nothing. The excellent NCRD staff teaches lifesaving swimming skills in a fun, supportive environment. I've watched non-swimmer students become proficient swimmers during the school year because of the regular, weekly lessons. Our community is so fortunate to have this program available and we need to value and support it.

This program is so important for the safety of our children. Knowing how to swim when living in an area surrounded by water is life saving! It is the biggest perk of having our kids go to Nehalem Elementary.

We are literally surrounded by water. Ocean, rivers, lakes, bays…ect. As someone who grew up out here and benefited from swim classes every Friday, it would be asinine to make such a drastic cut in pool times. It’s just as valuable of an education if not more so then any other subject you can think of. Don’t be ridiculous. Listen to the people who actually use the facility and have kids directly benefiting from it.

The swim program saves lives. Don't lose sight of that benefit. Probably contributes to health and wellness, too.

There have been so many testimonials over the years, lauding the value of the Nehalem Elementary School Swim Program. The original primary motive for building a pool and teaching swimming was to save children from drowning. Beyond that original intention, elementary school teachers have noted how students, especially the rowdy ones, are quieter and calmer and more receptive to learning after swimming. The school swim program is one hour per week for each grade. The three R's (readin', writin', and 'rithmetic) still have all the rest of the school week. Don't be swayed by administrators wanting "more time" for academic work.

The swim program teaches more than swimmimg. Students learn safety skills that apply through all aspects of their lives, they learn to listen better and to respect their bodies. It is the best PE they could get.

Maintaining the full, uncut schedule of swim classes for NES students is the correct and wise choice. Time and again childrens’ needs to get ample physical activity at school is undermined by scheduling demands and other administrative excuses for not doing what is in students’ best interests. Gee not everyone in the district can participate in this wonderful opportunity so let’s gut it to a meaningless level. This rationale makes no sense. KEEP THE SWIMMING CLASSES and don’t lessen the number of classes!!!!

The NCRD is a favorite childhood memory of mine, it would be heartbreaking to lose the opportunity to go back again..
