Save Natick Dam

18 years ago, I took an amazing woman to the most beautiful spot in my hometown, Natick, for our first date. Two years later, I brought her back to the Natick Dam to propose to her. Now, whenever we are back in town, we return and show our children this special place in our story. The Dam is such a historic and beautiful spot in Natick -- please save it!

Too rich of a history to be removed. My families property on the banks has been there for well over a century. it would be heartbreaking.

I would hate to see this historical dam be removed. The articles mention funding available for removal, but please note that funding could also be available to help cover the repairs.

Creating open picnic space and canoe /kayak access in place of the trees provides enhanced utility for public use, possible additional economic activity in south Natick and continues current use.

Has the Natick Conservation Committee commented on the loss of bordering vegetated wetlands?

I will gladly donate to a fund to repair the dam.

Iconic landscape

I was in the 101st Airborne Division. One day in 1986 or 1987, the Tennessean newspaper had a beautiful picture of ducks sitting on the dam. I was happy to show my southern friends a magnificent picture from my hometown. I hope someone can find the picture and show the beauty of that day at the dam to the committee.

Please save the dam. It has meant so much to so many.

I understand it may be more cost effective to remove the dam, but I have not seen a specific study regarding which trees need to come down in order to preserve it. It seems the proposal is to cut all the trees down rather than actually studying the situation regarding the earthen bank. I have also heard contradicting stories regarding the condition of the spillway. It would be a nice feature to keep in town if it is only marginally more expensive to do so.

Please slow the process down and research the issues more thoroughly, as it appears to being shoved through the pipeline in a hurried fashion without ample time for everyone to weigh in given the odd and inconvenient time slots for the public to opine, as most families are elsewhere during the summer months. Why is it so pressing to resolve when the public at large is not fully informed. Thank you.

Grew up in Natick and am a NHS 1970 graduate who now has retired to the Cape. The dam creates a beautiful recreation area that I have many fond memories of, and still love to drive by on my trips back to Natick. It would be a big mistake to turn this beautiful portion of the Charles River into a stream and loose this area for our residents.

Save the dam please! It's such a beautiful spot.
