I loved my year spent in Mr. Carnine's class. I remember not only the material we covered, but the life lessons learned in that class! Mr. Carnine was always a supportive, encouraging, knowledgable and competent teacher. I can only say good things about him and things he has done for me. I feel so sorry that he is misrepresented by this falsified incident. I hope he is rectified and the accuser is severely punished for her wrongful allegation.

My daughter Kerry is in Mr. Carnine's 6th grade class and constantly talks about the amazing things he teaches them in his class. When I asked her about the accusations, Kerry quickly responded that there is no way anything like that would be true. He has constantly taught the 6th grade class tolerance and how intolerance has caused such damage throughout history. What bothers me most is that this seems to be ripped out of the pages of history -- the Salem witch trials. Accusations without evidence, guilt assumed, etc. Removing Mr. Carnine from the class without allowing him a proper proceeding harms all his current students. There are well over 30 witnesses to the events, so this isn't some "he said/she said" incident. This can and should be reviewed immediately. If not, I propose the class start reading "The Crucible" immediately. Or perhaps the biography of Senator Joe McCarthy. They might get a greater insight to how knowing your history is always important.

Mr. Carnine is an accomplished and extremely caring educator who gives of himself for the benefit of his students. The news of this lawsuit was reported in third-rate media outlets that misrepresented Mr. Carnine by failing to provide even one comment from the countless students, families, and teachers who could attest to the quality of his character. A testament in support of Mr. Carnine’s excellence and professionalism would have been very easy to find, as this petition clearly demonstrates! Your voice is powerful. Go, Patriots!

I am currently a 7th grader and I have never had Mr.Carnine and I am not taking any sides but are some people just saying he shouldn't be sued with out proof?

Mr. Carnine is an exemplary teacher who is deeply committed to his students and to teaching the values of living in a multicultural society. Mr. Steven Carnine taught two of my three children. His teaching strategies are innovative, sensitive and challenging. He requires students to think critically and independently. As a parent and a former LAUSD social studies teacher, I can only express how much I value and admire Steve as a teacher and as a person.

Based on my understanding from those students present in the same classroom as the accuser, these accusations are completely false. Also, based on my own personal interactions with Mr Carnine and my daughter's experience as his student, he is an amazing educator and dedicated teacher who deserves the benefit of the doubt, rather than being removed under questionable circumstances. I hope the district comes to understand that the actions they have decided to take not only undermines their own power, but also creates a large opportunity cost for all of Mr Carnine's other students who are now suffering the consequences of LAUSD's rash response to political pressure. Rather, the district should show all the students, parents and the world that they have faith in Paul Revere's staff and trust that the investigation which has already taken place at the school level was properly conducted. This investigation found that the accusations could not be corroborated by any other student present in that classroom. That should count for something. Finding and keeping a good teacher like Mr Carnine should be valued more highly than the perception of the press. I hope the truth rises to the top and the district rises to the occasion.

I have never had this teacher, but I just want to say that in our times today, anything can be considered racist. For example, if a teacher says there is black construction paper in the back, someone says "Racist!" I believe that this is much out of his character.

Mr.Carnine doesn't deserve these racist comments against him. He is a great human being and teacher. I see him everyday and he is one of the kindest people I have ever met. He is one of the only teachers to let students eat in his classroom and that includes students OF ANY RACE OR AGE ! Please don't let Paul Revere get rid of its best teacher.

As an African American, I never felt that Mr Carnine was racist, not even once. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had, and I cannot stand to see him so falsely accused. I really hope that his life can return to normal after this.

I am a retired teacher who had the privilege of being a partner teacher with Steve Carnine at Marquez and at Paul Revere. I am devastated by the current accusations against this amazingly creative, enthusiastic, dedicated, knowledgeable, compassionated and innovative teacher. I know Steve CArnine. I know he is one of the most culturally sensitive and caring human beings I have ever known. I was always in awe of the depth, scope and grasp of world history he brought to his teaching. Has anyone stopped to realize that his name is Steven Chin Carnine? He is bi-racial. Among all of our friends, Steve is the one who knows deep in his heart and soul what prejudice feels like. To ruin his career with this kind os publicity, is unconscionable, regrettable, and sad beyond belief. I truly hope that cooler heads will prevail in this matter, and that Steve will be cleared to return to his beloved profession. He is a true educator and students are lucky to have him as their teacher.
