PETITION TO THE PETER PAN MOAT BRAE TRUST DUMFRIES SCOTLAND
We, the undersigned, recognise the work of the Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust in saving Walter Newall’s 1823 Moat Brae House in Dumfries, Scotland, from demolition, but wish to register our concern regarding the details of the proposed development, particularly the design of the extensions proposed to either side of the house, which will blight and compromise the visual integrity of the house and its garden setting. We urge the Trust to consult with local people and the Save Moat Brae Action Group to find a mutually acceptable design solution for the proposed Children’s Literature Centre, which is in harmony with and respectfully recognises the architecture and heritage of the house and its garden, and the local conservation area.

I honestly cannot believe how many people care about this place as much as I do and it feels like the momentum is finally shifting in our favor. It is wild to think about how much noise we are making for the sake of that house and the garden and I just keep reading through the notes people leave because they are honestly so heartfelt (and sometimes a bit angry but in a good way).

A dreadful proposal from an organisation that was established with the express purpose of restoring this georgian house and garden. This development proposal drastically compromises the setting of this listed building and its garden, and in no way improves or enhances the historic character of this Conservation Area.
As the man who founded the trust I am sad that the present board of trustees have not listened to local public opinion about what they are doing
It is most unlikely that any replacement would come anywhere near this impressive piece of architecture. Why dont they appreciate what they have , and treasure it ?
I agree the proposed development urgently needs to be re-considered.
Demolition to preservation is the correct procedure - the additional structures will destroy all historical appreciation

The trust has a noble objective but the proposed extensions to the house destroy its character and are too ambitious.

A proposal that somehow misses the entire point of saving the building in the first place, by eradicating the spirit of the gardens and the place, and with them any reason to visit. Am sure there will be plenty of interpretation boards though to tell visitors what they should be feeling, but not really the same is it? Great scheme for the architect's portfolio though, and a good laugh at the expense of the Planners and the Local Authority...
