Eliminating this park would be absolute insanity and contrary to every principle of good planning

Totally against this- not a good idea! Baseball fields need to stay!!

I was born and raised in Middleburg, and have very fond memories playing Middleburg Little League and Babe Ruth level baseball. I also played briefly for the Middleburg town team. Mickie Gordon played a huge role in my baseball-playing years. Please do not desecrate the park facility named for him by converting the park to cricket fields.

We need more baseball/softball diamonds. Not less. Period!!!!

Save the fields for youth

It does not make much sense to take something away with all the land in Loudoun.

Isn’t this park currently in use? Time for a traffic and environmental impact study too.

Save Mickie Gordon Park!!

Need to spend money to improve the field and facilities. The youth need good fields to play on and grow. More scholarships for young men to go to college playing baseball than playing cricket. My two sons would not have gone to college if it wasn’t for baseball scholarships. They played little league in Middleburg and played Babe Ruth on Pop Gordon field. Improve what is already there.

Please keep the field for the kids.

Mickey Gordon Field is an iconic community park. Please don’t undo so much good. Find a new space to build a much needed cricket park. Make it a win win.

We don’t need this

Proposed development is completely out of character of current area, not in best interest of local residents.

Proposed lighting is in contrast to the goals of minimal light pollution, road additions are preposterous.

Keep the park as it is!

Not appropriate for this historic rural area. Will threaten wildlife, especially with night lights.

Why do LCPRD officials think it's OK to eliminate a 60' foot little league diamond and a 90' foot baseball diamond? Are these diamonds no longer being used? It's obvious why they are trying to renovate Mickie Gordon Park into cricket fields because it's the cheapest land grab to do such! Put the cricket fields where the need/want is! How many Middleburg/Purcellville residents are requesting these cricket fields? Please by all means LOCO officials, please share the results of such a survey or whatever you have and please have names and addresses of such individuals requesting cricket fields in Middleburg. For the record, to the folks speaking about the LED lights, the LED lights today vs. the incandescent lights of old do not have any light spillage as the LED lighting is concentrated and contained onto the field. I have played on that 90' baseball diamond field in the men's baseball league and coached on it as well when I was at Notre Dame Academy. By the way, WHO allowed the fox in the hen house already at Mickie Gordon Park? It states ... Greenhill Winery and Vineyards is directly across Route 50 from the Mickie Gordon Park proposed sight, with 20 acres of grapevines and 10 acres of cattle. Additional evening lighting of the scale proposed will have severe damaging effects on the vines in their health and in their yield, creating a devastating effect for the Greenhill Winery business and for the protection of Virginia's agricultural sector. According to the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) website, VDACS "promotes the economic growth and development of Virginia agriculture, provides consumer protection and encourages environmental stewardship." The Mickie Gordon Park proposal, then, is an immense violation of this VDACS charter. Furthermore, the VDACS website states: "Agriculture is Virginia’s largest private industry. The industry has an economic impact of $82.3 billion annually, provided more than 381,800 jobs in the Commonwealth, and $43.8 billion in value-added impact. The industries of agriculture and forestry together have a total economic impact of over $105 billion and provide more than 490,000 jobs in the Commonwealth. Every job in agriculture and forestry supports 1.6 jobs elsewhere in Virginia’s economy. According to a 2021 economic impact study, livestock production accounted for approximately 63 percent of farm cash receipts, with poultry, beef, and dairy constituting the largest products. Crops make up the difference with grains, such as corn, wheat, and soybeans, being the most significant field crops. Virginia’s food, beverage, and fiber processors and manufacturers buy many of their agricultural commodity inputs from Virginia farmers. These industries have grown by approximately 1,100 jobs (two percent) over the last five years. When the employment and value-added impact of agriculture and forestry are considered together, they make up 9.3 percent of the state’s total gross domestic product.
