While I can appreciate the county’s desire to expand recreational opportunities, I fear the proposed expansion of the park and increased traffic to the area will detract from the existing recreational gems that Middleburg offers to hikers, horseback riders, and cyclists.

I’m not opposed to cricket fields, but we must first make sure that Loudoun’s youth has enough fields to play on. At present, they do not. Studies have proven time and again, when you create spaces for the youth to play and engage in, the entire community benefits. Mickie Gordon park was designed to be a baseball field and it should remain as such.

The needs of cricket players who reside almost exclusively in other, more developed parts of the county (e.g. South Riding/Ashburn) SHOULD NOT drive the conversion of a beautiful and historic rural park to a highly developed, paved, and artificially lighted cricket center. This will have significant negative environmental impact due to paving, increased traffic, destruction of wildlife and pollinator habitat, extensive artificial lighting, increased noise and garbage generation. More importantly, local residents overwhelmingly OPPOSE this! Locate this center elsewhere. One better option would be more extensive development of the already existing Hanson Park in Brambleton for cricket. Although there is only one cricket pitch there currently, there are 75 acres of “passive” recreational space that could be partly developed for cricket.
