45 days in alternative schooling for a first offense is excessive. Minorities have a higher disporportion in receiving punishment than Whites.

The 45 Boot camp is excessive. That is for students who have a history and disciplinarian issues. Which is not the case with this young man!!

The suggested punishment of 45 days in alternative school certainly doesn't seem to fit the incident, especially given that the instigator received zero disciplinary action. Our family endured this same type of incident many years ago and the TISD's all encompassing zero tolerance policy was just as ridiculous then as it seems to be in this matter. Given Malik's family background, and his past in school record of zero discipline worthy incidents, I have to agree the punishment is excessive for the scenario.

For someone that has not been a trouble maker in school and has been bullied all through the school the punishment is way to severe . Bullying must be stopped . Schools need to see bullying as very serious and address people that are doing the bullying , not those that are being bullied

As teachers and faculty....in professional development workshops they always preach to us that no child is the same, and you have to do what's best for that child and their situation. I understand the importance of rules and why we need to follow them, but if a kid who never gets in trouble all of a sudden does something out of character we have to question it. Not excuse it, but definitely question it, and then deal with it from accordingly. Suspension for 3 days is a lot if everything stated is true. But 45 days in alternative school, for a first time offense?! At the end of the day we want kids to learn from their mistakes and be better. Not crush and devastate them so they're just bitter towards the system.

This happened to me in high school and it was extremely unfair. The punishment is not fair based on the information I see.
