Not only is this disloyal to our Service personnel and our Gurkha friends, but just imagine how many new houses will be put up to add to our already collapsed local infrastructure.

When historical buildings are removed they cannot be replaced.
The UK owes so much to the Gurkhas, its an honour the live amongst them.

The Queen's Gurkha Regiment and their families have been an important part of the town since they were posted to the barracks back in 1994 and about 1200 Nepalese people now live in the Maidstone area. The government have just announced plans to close the barracks within the next ten years and relocate the regiment, which would change Maidstone for the worse and have a big impact on this thriving community. We owe a great deal to these people. Lets not let them down.

I am strongly opposed to the closure of Maidstone Barracks. The Gurkhas have faithfully served in HM Armed Forces for over 200 years and there has been a military presence in Maidstone since the 18th century. The Nepalese community is socially and economically integral to the local community in Maidstone. This closure would be detrimental to their families and to Maidstone as a whole. I am deeply saddened by this announcement.

I am strongly against the closure of this barracks. Having known and currently knowing serving soldiers there and their families, not to mention the countless Nepalese families with links to the barracks (who feed the great, multicultural, feel of Maidstone), this closure would be a travesty.
It is a disgrace that it would even be considered to uproot families, especially those of foreign nationals, who have came to the UK in order to fight for our liberty, in order to trim some fat from a budget.
Maidstone is a garrison town and to lose the barracks would be to strip the identity from what is "the county town of Kent".

Please keep our soldiers in Maidstone. Watching them march through the town makes me so proud. Their families integrate into our town and generate a lot of money into local businesses.

It's a place with history attached to it and has a significant cultural role it plays with Maidstone and British commmunity as whole. For Gurkhas as a part of Royal Engineers it has been home since we moved to UK.
