The barracks is an integral part of our town and we feel extremely proud of our service men and women who have served our country and town so well over many years. Please do not erase this history. Maidstone is a military town.

I believe it is better to have the military as part of the town, rather than creating huge military bases. Also we have already had a big number of new housing estates in Maidstone - with no improvement to the roads.

Maidstone does not need more housing. It needs more jobs, more training opportunities and a bypass. Building housing will give short term employment opportunities to skilled workers in specific trades. It will not provide the long term opportunities needed by this town.

Maidstone will miss the barracks and all associated with it. We do not need more housing especially as Royal Engineers Way will have two more housing developments if agreed by Council. Maidstone Barracks has a long history and a shame if it is demolished.

The Gurkhas have been offering such a helpful and vital role. The Barracks have been open for 220 years in Maidstones let's keep them open.

My wife and I entirely agree all your stated reasons for saving Maidstone's barracks. If closed and redeveloped Maidstone will be diminished and we shall all lose out in many ways.

Building 800 houses in the centre of a town whose infrastructure can barely cope as it is is seems unwise; to do so by evicting 800 Gurkhas and their families seems shortsighted in the extreme.

This just isn't right. I constantly meet these guys out on a training run and they always have a smile and a 'good morning'. We need more of these people in our society not less.
