The barracks must be saved for Gurkha's proud history in the British Army, sacrifice and service to the county; and for the local community& economy, Gurkha family, and above all for the continuity of military heritage and history of the barracks.

I cannot help but think that the motive behind this is to sell the site for development as it now resides in an area ripe for conversion. We have already seen one end sold and a group of flats built that are continually up for sale.
Stop thinking about selling off the Crown Jewels as we constantly down size our forces and will not be in a position to support even peace keeping efforts around the world in years to come,

Two centuries is a long time and it is an insult to Maidstone Barracks to be in other words, evicted, when so many generations of family have lived in harmony in Maidstone sharing their culture with ours and contributing their military skills to protecting Kent and our country. It would make sense if the housing development would be upgrading the housing for the Barracks otherwise this is the way we thank them, with closure and displacement of many people !

My Dad and Grandad were both stationed at the barracks during their time in the army. Maidstone is a garrison town, lets keep it that way!

The Gurkhas are an important part of Maidstone's identity, one to be proud of, and are treasured members of our community. Maidstone has precious little identity remaining that distinguishes it from other towns that have similarly been stripped of their heritage by development that does nothing to preserve the local culture. The Gurkhas have earned their right to remain a part of our culture, having served us for 200 years. Importantly, we are referring to people in this matter, not just buildings and objects that bear witness to the town's history. The barracks and the Gurkhas must remain. Maidstone, in common communities all over the country, has already seen residential expansion far beyond the capacity of its infrastructure - without plausible explanation. The trade off between even more overcrowding and the preservation of local culture is no doubt down to potential profits for the local authority. It is about time that local people are prioritized.
