My father served as a royal engineer at Maidstone barracks in the late 50s early 60s . As a x army lad myself I think it would be such a shame with over 200yrs if this historic barracks is closed , not to mention the loss of income to Maidstone and surrounding area

The barracks and the people who work there are an integral part of the town. Their value cannot be judged in pure economic terms.

Do you really want to be responsible for sending these soldiers, that would lay down their lives for us without question away?
Do you wish to be the one responsible for removing these brave families and replacing 200 years of history with a housing development like Kings Hill, all in the name of building development? The barracks can b redeveloped and housing modernised - there is no reason to remove the garrison other than for financial and political gain.
The troops must stay!

I have lived in Maidstone for 69 years and my Father was in the 36 Engineers.
Please keep this site for the Army.

My son was a member of 36 and was killed in 2010. His memories of life in the regiment are enshrined there. His bench encourages those who think they can't, the regiment teaches them they can. Please keep it alive else I fear he will die again.

The local economy will be affected greatly if we loose this barracks.
We need to support those who have fought on our behalf and/or have backed up our service personnel with their skills.
