This important crossing needs to be retained, not least for rapid access for fire tenders and other emergency vehicles to the nearby industrial estate. It is in a built-up area and must be retained if road traffic is to be dispersed away from the town centre to avoid congestion.

I use the road over the crossing daily and oppose the plans to remove the crossing, plus a lot of young children walk that way from school, walking around the round about would be more of a risk for them in the winter dark evenings.

What benefit is there from splitting the town in two. We need this crossing. It has been there for 150 years and offers safe passage for countless pedestrians and drivers. The bridges north and south are at the outside boundsries ! We must retain this central crossing point within the town! Closing the crossing will destroy the town's beating heart. Stop this lunacy.

This would mean a 15 minute walk to our car instead of 2 minutes. We live two doors away from the crossing and park our car in the car park on the opposite side

I use this road a lot.I need to cross it when I take my children to the school bus stop at Tesco. Closing this road will add on at least 20 minutes to our daily walk it's a lot for little legs every day. A lot of psrents use this road.

That's crazy to close important route between lower and upper sides of town. Rethink your ideas network rail.

Crossing used heavily by pedestrians & road traffic.
Several housing estates, businesses & on Tescos side would be cut off. Would force extra traffic onto other routes leading to other crossings . Extra traffic some of it heavy goods vehicles = more likely chance of accidents around town.
To create an alternative crossing for pedestrians & disabled scooters presumably it would have to be a bridge . This would have to be high & entail long ramps - would create an eyesore in the centre of town / alongside the main route through town . If a bridge over the railway near the station I'd say No Thak You - Ugly .
Has anyone looked into just
how unsafe this level crossing is ? What are the accident statistics ? As far as I know the present arrangement works fine.
I'd like to know if the suggested closure is really for safety or is it really to do with money ?!

This would make the crossing very dangerous! Unless you intend to close the road altogether, which would be disastrous. This idea is not welcomed or supported by local people.

Nearly as ludicrous an idea as closing the school. Waterloo road is for access only, and cannot be used as an alternative to the crossing, So I can only assume they would expect to go the the main roundabout to come back into town or past tesco to the traffic lights. Crazy.
