I can remember the profound impact of band camp on my own experience. It would be detrimental not just to the band's performance ability but to the growth and development of the children to cancel the camp. As an L-W alum, I urge the board to re-instate the camp.

If parent support exists, band camp is a critical opportunity to build relationships and a strong musical program.

Don't ever take band camp away from a band kid. They will be so depressed and it will dramatically alter their performance skills. Also follow me on everything @rhysmoo

Please do not take away these kids band camp! It's the most critical time for a marching band to improve and learn their music and drill. The band needs this time to do their job and also have a great time while doing it. Don't take this amazing opportunity away from them.

Band camp is very important to band geeks. If you take band camp away it will tear the marching band apart!

First, I believe some clearer communication here is critical as many possibilities for such a change have been tossed around. Whether this change is because of financial cuts or more consistency through Lincoln-Way extra-curricular activities or for some other yet un-announced reason, I believe the essence of the Marching Knight program and, in particular, this band camp experience must be carefully considered.
Mainly, I have recognized that the Marching Knight organization instilled values such as unity, responsibility, and discipline. As several supporters have stressed, these aforementioned values as well as the personal experiences obtained from ‘a far’ remain irreplaceable. In particular, I believe this opportunity challenges our adolescents to become independent, responsible, young adults in a secure, yet fresh setting. This experience, although only a week in duration per season, helped me to achieve excellence within myself, yet also within a team.
I highly urge the Lincoln-Way Board of Administration to seriously re-consider such changes to the Marching Knight program. Please listen to your supportive alumni, faculty, parents, and most importantly the students. It is their academic and personal excellence that we are shaping.

As a chaperone, I can't believe the transformation of these kids from day one to the last day. These kids grow together in so many ways. Wonderful friendships are formed. I don't think our surrounding neighbors are prepared for the energy at night these kids exhibit. On Band camp campus, the kids are free to express themselves. All I ask is that the administration really look at the pros and cons before making this rash decision. Not all programs operate the same. Diversity is what we are taught.

We believe going away for band camp provided great focus and commaradery among students, staff and supporting parents. The activities are well planned, supervised and promote development and growth for our students.
