To consider building a new fire station with existing homes on three sides and an existing elementary school on the fourth side is not a prudent choice. We currently have noise from the airport and the train - please do not add more. I join with others in requesting another site be chosen.

With additional sites available for a fire department that could equally serve the safety of the citizens in this area, why disrupt the peace of these neighborhoods and a much utilized park? Is the school really being given enough consideration by the council? Should classroom focus be interrupted every time the fire alarms go off next door? This isn't a high school; it's elementary with young children whose safety and concentration deserve to be a factor in this decision.

Lee Manor has been a quiet neighborhood and the safety of children should always come first. Additional sites for the fire station (as mentioned at the meeting on the 21st) should be seriously considered. Please take a closer look at these recommendations and keep heavy equipment vehicles away from the school area. Children's safety is PARAMOUNT!

Bad decision, we need to find another location for a new fire station. This is not good idea, like many others, I am opposed to having one right next to a school. Also the removal of the tennis courts is a bad idea, as people still use them for recreation. Yes, we do need a fire station at this end of the City, but....NOT at this spot! This is so wrong for many reasons. We bought our home and have lived in this neighborhood since 1982. LOCATION ~ LOCATION ~ LOCATION and this is NOT the right location.

Whereas we likely need a fire station on this end of the city, I would encourage the City Council and planning departments to continue searching for a better location. Thanks, -Rob Schneider

We do not need a fire department in this location. Please select another site. This fire station right in the middle of this neighborhood is a bad idea. The tennis courts are used daily and many children use this area to play. Why take it away? No, No, No to having the fire department built by Rounds Elementary School.

I live right across the street next to Rounds Elementary. I have lived here since 1991. We DO NOT NEED a Fire Department here. It reduces property value, and jeopardizes the serenity, safety and well being of the entire neighborhood. I cannot imagine the noise that will be generated from this fire department and the disturbances it will cause with each emergency they respond to. Please find and select another location. I support this petition and do not want the fire department here. James Arshon

I agree with S. Wallace's comment-"...Manassas is getting out of hand". This is a very peaceful neighborhood, and building this structure will "rob us" of the many reasons we moved here in the first place----Peace-Quiet-Safety---the hallmark's of this community. Who thought of this anyway? Perhaps they should buy a home next to the proposed site.

We already have too many vehicles driving too fast on Hastings past where dozens of children walk to school. Combined with existing train, quarry blasting, and airport noise. Enough!

Please relocate the fire station to a site nearby with less impacts on schoolchildren and noise levels. I support a fire station on this side of the City and appreciate City Council making this a priority. It's this particular site that I oppose, due to safety concerns for pedestrians in an area with high foot traffic, noise impacts on both the Cloverhill and Lee Manor neighborhoods, traffic patterns during drop off and pick up, and the future land-needs the school may have. If Round Elementary needs to expand in the future, the school may be boxed in by a shared entrance and will need that land. With the Manassas Gateway development coming, the need for school expansion is likely, and we need to factor this into the decision. Please relocate to a more suitable site and Council will have my support. Thank you.

By moving the tennis courts away from the adjacent basketball court, playground, and large parking lot and relocating it across the street from the PWC Winged Elm neighborhood, on the part of Godwin Drive that is primarily access to Prince William County (not city) areas, you would be gifting this amenity to PWC and taking it away from Manassas families that use the tennis courts as a family activity area. Please do not degrade the city by ruining the park when there is much more appropriate land available around the corner. Do not move the city Tennis courts to the Prince William County border, on a road used primarily by county, not city, residents.

Was it not put into thought that the buses might be leaving while an emergency occurs? Or that there are long lines of cars waiting to pick their children up? This is an awful idea, buses won't be able to all easily move out of the way for a firetruck to get through, it easily makes the place a hazard spot.

While I agree that there is a need for a a fire station on this side of town, I am concerned about the location that has been selected. Lee Manor Park is in the middle of a neighborhood and located next to an elementary school. Placing a fire station in this location not only threatens property values but endangers children walking to and from Round Elementary. Nonresidential locations along Godwin or closer to the airport should be considered instead.
