Save the Lee Jackson Stained Glass Windows

By all accounts, Lee and Jackson were two of the most devoutly-Christian men ever to lead Americans into battle. Whatever one's position on the cause of Southern independence, one who has studied these two men cannot honestly deny that they viewed the world strictly through a Christian lens, earnestly endeavoring to do their duty and serve their countrymen while humbly following Christ's example, as best they could. Both men suffered greatly, and their faith was tested mightily, but neither lost his faith in God. Instead, they were sustained by the promise of God's Grace. Surely this is why the images of Lee and Jackson were placed in the windows of the National Cathedral in the first place; just as surely as this is the reason the image of any saint appears in a Christian church. To focus on the aspects of the images that place Lee in Jackson in context - the flags - is to either miss the point or ignore it. Because of their unwavering faith in God, I can think of no other place where the image of Lee and Jackson is more appropriately displayed as an example for Americans of faith.

Enough is enough

Nothing about the Confederacy was about hate, not what so ever. A race of people are being appeased at the expense of history and my ancestors. Double standards have got to stop.

Removing the windows is a sign of hatred, not Christian love.

Keep the windows in tact.

Please do not destroy these beautiful windows! They represent ever so much more than slavery - which General Robert E. Lee was opposed to and also didn't own any slaves. These are a beautiful part of our National Cathedral and should remain.

I urge you to leave the windows in place. To me they represent respect to my heritage of southern ancestors and to those who lost their lives.

This is part of our heritage. Lee and Jackson are revered throughout the world!

Democratic countries don’t erase their history. What are we becoming?

These windows are an integral part of the history of our country and should remain in place.

As a proud decedent of a confederate soldier, the removal of these windows would be an injustice to our Southern Heritage and alienate a group of Americans. I wonder what 300,00 plus Southern boys and my great-great-grandfather must be whispering on the wind today. Are you ashamed of us? Did we give our lives in vain?

Thanks for working on this important preservation of our history and culture.

Please do not destroy a beautiful work of art. Don't take the National Cathedral apart.
