Save Kythera's Pristine Skyline! Stop industrial wind turbine construction on the Island.

Wind turbines sate not cost effective (especially the out-modes ones proposed in Greece), the landscape is unalterably changed by roadworks and site preparation, companies never take responsibility for removal of defunct towers, there is no effective energy storage which necessitates fossil fuel backups - in short, they are a 21st century boondoggle.

I support this petition and the resistance of the proposed project moving forward

I am a tax-paying property owner in Kythira and it is important that Kythira not become a wind farm. Citizens have the right to be consulted and their views taken into account.

Environmental investment projects always become political because they encourage a break with the existing model. In this case, we can think that the opportunity for an innovative political line is there. But in the case of Kithera, it is a political line that serves as a pretext to receive subsidies and develop a project in a territory that is seen as forgotten and depopulated. In short, the island is analyzed as a platform large enough to build an industrial project totally out of proportion with local needs. It is therefore a political project when you plan a project of this scale in one of the few islands in Greece that has real vegetation, real biodiversity. It is a deliberate sacrifice to make a good impression and go in the direction of history. There may be another policy on this island and because it has a family spirit, I am joining in this petition.

Let’s turn Kithera into a green (energy) island, not into an industrial wind farm with nothing for the local economy.

Why then does Kythera need so many wind turbines? Put simply, it doesn’t. The energy produced by the new constructions is intended to supply the mainland, not guarantee the island’s own needs. In fact all the energy produced would have to be routed through the mainland, as the limited high-voltage infrastructure on the island couldn’t process the massive production

This is the worst form of exploitation, hidden under the guise of something beneficial. It threatens to suck in people with good intentions while seriously and irreversibly destroying Kythera's natural beauty, innocence and special character that draws people every year. This longer term is  not beneficial for Kythera, nor for Greece. It only goes to profit the constructors and other special interests who secure the funding and help the government meet its renewable energy targets. A NONSENSICAL GRAB FOR FUNDING AT THE COST OF IRREVERSIBLE AND LONG TERM DAMAGE. I STRONGLY OPPOSE THIS INITIATIVE.

Wind turbines are a thing of the past. Solar is the way to go.

It's a small island and its stark landscape is much of its charm. Kythera can't afford to give that up. This is not the place for wind farms.
