D of E is a great experience for kids to get involved in, why are Kirklees cutting this opportunity?

It's not ok to hurt the most vulnerable and stop them getting help and experience which could get them a job/ experience of being with people

Please reconsider these plans. My disability charity, Open Country, uses Little Deer Wood and you have a great set-up there. Do not lose an asset you cannot replace once the madness of Austerity Britain is over.

Dofe has helped many children I have worked with including those with Disabilities making them feel like they have accomplished something and provides with skills they wouldn't learn elsewhere keep it going!

A great award. It would be such a shame to see it disappear.

WACKY in particular is a hugely important event, and it would be a true shame to see it cut.

I think this is absolutely disgraceful. The Councillors have recently complained about anti-social behaviour by young people in Linthwaite and Lindley. If they cut these amazing youth services then what do they expect? My friends do DofE through Kirklees and it would be such a terrible thing to stop this brilliant award.

As a participant who loves the dofe programme i believe this idea is silly! I feel it will be a great addition to my CV and applications to universities. I want my brother and other young children to have a great opportunity.

Had a great time doing my DofE with Kirklees and would hate to see others miss out on the same opportunity

The Kirklees dofe services are really well run, very enjoyable and would be a great shame if they were shut down.

This is such a good cause and gives young people a better chance in their future life I can not understand why any one would even consider stopping it

This is a plea against the proposed closure of the open access youth services in Kirklees due to spending restrictions imposed on the council from central government. Closure would hit hard at the vibrant and enriching activities mainly staffed by volunteers and force organisations such as the D of E open award centres to become either wholly self funding or to close, resulting in a loss of enrichment activities to young people who might not be able to access them otherwise, due to either disability or household income. As a trainee teacher, I have experienced first hand the positive impact that such centres have on young people from all backgrounds, and urge the council to preserve funding, where possible.
