The emails I receive from performers who have spent decades on these cobbles are heavy to read but they remind me exactly why we are fighting. I have been spending my evenings documenting the history of the square to present to the council because they seem to think this is just empty space. It is exhausting work but the thought of losing the soul of this corner keeps me going.

One hundred people have signed on to protect our square and I am genuinely humbled by the response. This fight is long and the days are heavy but seeing this level of backing keeps me moving forward.

kings square needs the music. it wouldnt be york without them
RIDICULOUS. Who wants to sit at a plastic table when you could be watching talent?
Total madness. Trying to turn our city into a boring tourist trap.
Keep the buskers! They make the square what it is. Chocolate shop can go somewhere else.
The soul of the city is being sold off for tables and chairs. Very sad.
