As a local resident of the community and having lived in the area for nearly four years now Richard has gone out of his way to make us feel that nothing is too much trouble for him and he knows all of us by our first names. I am angry that Royal Mail have decided to replace Richard on the grounds that he is too slow. I would be interested in what the CWU (Richards Union) would have to say, discrimination springs to mind. I hope Royal Mail see sense and decide NOT to make this change. We need loyal hard working employees.

Richard is a complete credit to Royal Mail, he has become part of our community and I think it's discussing how he is being treated!!

Sorry but cannot believe it's because he is slow as he runs around here and is gone again very quickly. He is personable as well as most efficient--so guess it is really about costs as usual.

I wish to make my feelings known regarding the removal of Richard Kemp from his postal round at a day’s notice. I understand the reasons for his removal are speed and efficiency? You will be aware that the round is for the most part through villages and country lanes, so hold ups if they happen cannot be avoided. I find it quite sad that after 28 years working for your organisation you feel the need to treat Mr Kemp with such indifference. I remember a similar story regarding the postman from Topsham, replaced by another with some made up story about his working practice. Mr Kemp’s dedication to his work is unquestionable and his years of excellent service to both Royal Mail and the community he serves speak for themselves. I am sure you would not hesitate in taking the praise should he have saved a life, because he knows his round and the people he delivers to so well. I am equally sure that if he just stuck to delivering the mail at a pace and ignored the sighs that something was wrong and someone died you would be the first to say that he should have taken time to check… Which ever way, he is onto a lose lose situation. I find it disgraceful on your part not to appreciate and value a most excellent employee such as Mr Kemp. This man is a trusted friend and fund raiser to the community and though his job specification may not require such, his service to the community and his dedication to those he serves is an advocate of the greatest kind. An asset and an ambassador of the type Royal Mail should be truly proud of. Shame on you and your organisation. Lynette Dickens (Kerswell)

I may not live in the village anymore, but grew up there and have really fond memories of Richard! He was an amazing postman and always friendly in his role. Richard was very supportive to our family in a time of need, going out of his way to check we we're all ok. I think its extremely sad to hear this news and know he would be very sadly missed by Kentisbeare residents.

Richard is a real asset to the post office, he delivers the mail to the Kentisbeare residents (including my 90 year old Nan who has lived in the village her whole life) with such a personal touch that can never be replaced. You should be appalled at yourselves for allowing performance objectives like time come before security and reassurance - two qualities that Richard ensured everyone in Kentisbeare had with him.

Fantastic man & postman! If anything we slowed him down because we wanted to say Hi in the morning, so blame your customers not your postmen!

Richard has to be the nicest, most friendly and thoughtful postman I've ever come across. He's reliable, personable, delivers mail from a previous address. He's selfless and lovely. I would hate to think of anyone else doing the village round.

Richard has been an integeral part of this community for years. He goes over and above the call of duty and knows everyone on his round. If he is "slow" it's because he takes the time to speak to the people on his round. This is called customer service, a very undervalued trait in todays faceless, money driven business world.

We love him and our mail arrives early. Today, the first day without him....post is late!

I am extremely upset that Richard is being moved to a different route. We couldn't have a kinder, more trustworthy and diligent postman. Reinstate him please.
