Friends of Jedediah Hawkins Inn

In 2010, we sent out a petition, titled Save Jedediah Hawkins Inn. Five years later we are again in front of the Zoning Board of Appeals about the same issue, having a limited number of outside tented events, which are essential to our livelihood.

Over the past 5 years we have conscientiously observed the rules the ZBA set for us regarding the number of events (only 4 per month on non-school nights), the 9:30 curfew, the 125 person limit, the off road parking, and the monitoring of the noise volume with our decibel meter. These terms are more than reasonable and less than other venues enjoy. Nevertheless we are being met by resistance from a small group of local people who claim to speak for the community and wish to deny us these events which are essential to our financial survival.

We are asking for a show of support for Jedediah Hawkins Inn from our patrons and friends. Please sign this petition, post comments, write letters to the members of The Zoning Board of Appeals,Town of Riverhead, 200 Howell Avenue, Riverhead, NY 11901, and/or come to the meeting at Riverhead Town Hall on May 14 at 7 pm.

Thank you

Update: On May 14, the ZBA deferred a decision until May 28th. Please keep signing and sharing our petition.

Small group of people should be stopped for trying to destroy a small business which helps all community and attracts visitors from other places. We came to the friend's wedding, we rented a next door hotel, bought things in the local stores.

I'm a native of Jamesport and a member of the Jamesport Fire Department. I see no reason why the Hawkins Inn shouldn't hold events just like every other business of their kind on the North Fork, it's a beautiful old building in the heart of where I come from.

We love everything about Jedediah . We have lived here our whole life ; we live very close to the Inn and welcome the outside venue. Would these so called locals rather see this beautiful Inn as it was in its prior state. It adds value to their homes if anything..

Jedediah Hawkins Inn is a magical place, near and dear to my heart, as my husband and I had our wedding there in September of 2011. It is beautifully and tastefully restored, and deserves to continue to allow it's beauty to be enjoyed for years to come.

A wonderful, sensitively restored property in a delightful setting can only be preserved with substantial ongoing investment. The Inn is not only a beautiful landmark offering upscale hospitality it also brings essential tourist revenue to the whole community. Let them be.

I remember many years ago when the Jedediah Hawkins was an eyesore to the community, it was known as the ghost house and it was in ruins. Now it is a landmark and a tourist attraction to the community, the Town and the community should be happy that is so well maintained.

This Inn is a treasure to your community, it's historic. The Inn was there long before others. Our country wants to destroy the history of our fore fathers. I attended a wedding there July 11th and it was a most beautiful place.

We attended a local artist exhibit at the inn . Why would someone want to stop this venue from serving the community?
