Fitness and physical activity should be celebrated not diminished in NYC. There aren't enough affordable places to play indoor tennis in NYC. Please. Don't. do away with Sutton East.

Please save these courts - ,as a resident of the neighborhood who lives three blocks away, this is one of the couple (literally 2-3) places one can play tennis during the 5 cold months of the year on the East side of Manhattan at a reasonable price, and that is open to the public. If not for this facility, I would never have had the opportunity to play tennis, a sport I love, on a regular and affordable basis in NYC.
It has been a neighborhood staple for decades, and it will be a big loss to the whole community - we won't stand for it.

Extend the Sutton East lease! Otherwise, 65 New Yorkers would lose their jobs. Over 500 children and over 1000 adults from ALL socio-economic backgrounds would lose their place to play tennis. There is already an amazing park, literally just across the street. It's a no brainer - I live in Community Board 8's district. I SAY KEEP TENNIS!

There are very limited options to play tennis year round in Manhattan and a great number of people rely on Sutton East to play tennis. With it's convenient location for many East Side residents, Sutton Place is a popular choice for tennis lessons for children. Raising an active child in the City is difficult and expensive. There are a number of readily accessible parks in the area for children to play. There are not any other indoor tennis facilities that are open to the public where our children can learn a lifelong sport.

As there is a shortage of courts for winter play in Manhattan, I believe improvements should be made at Sutton courts. There should be special programs for Senior players. With an improved facility these courts would produce significant revenue.

All the signatures are fake. Just tried to look them up. Absolutely get rid of the courts which are NOT affordable. $150 a hour is NOT affordable and it's not fair to have a PRIVATE court using PUBLIC space for 3/4 of the year. GET RID OF THE COURTS.

I fully believe that this is the best use for a space that has to contend with heavy vehicle congestion on all sides, exhaust fumes, traffic noise, and truck dust and vibrations. There are already very limited publicly accessible tennis venues in Manhattan and closing this for a green space that will get little use is a disservice to the community not a benefit. There are great children's programs and if prices are steep, look into subsidizing lessons, dedicating court time, or offering free pro services to the underprivileged. Sutton East is not an exclusive country club, they are just an operator and all are welcome. In fact in many ways it is easier to book and play here than Central Park or Astoria Park. Get the East River Blue Ribbon Esplanade going that's where our energies should be.
