Our son joined the lacrosse team the spring of his freshman year. He joined because Houghton had cut the golf team that year. He enjoyed learning a new sport and made many friends on the team. It would be sad to see another sport being cut from the athletic teams offered at Houghton.

Through strong relationships and a holistic approach to coaching, young athletes will develop as people and play better as a team.

Athletics were an integral part of my time and houghton and it saddens me to think these dedicated student athletes were not given a voice in this decision or information to make an informed decision prior to deciding on returning to Houghton.

This is wildly unfair to athletes that worked so hard to get to this point. The decision being made after billing happened is a power grab by the school.

Sports are extremely important to help students off set stress that can occur from the class loads they may have. It is a growing sport that many student take part in and love to play. I am sure there are other areas when you can find funding and not cut lacrosse.

My daughter loves to play Lacrosse at Houghton. It was her first year and she loves it. Lacrosse is new and the upcoming sport for colleges. Dont lose this opportunity.

From the first year, the lacrosse athletes at Houghton have lived “for the glory to God.” They have been a wonderful example to their opponents. I always feel blessed to have gotten to know some of these athletes.

Our son chose Houghton College in large part due to his ability to play lacrosse there. Coach Lundeen’s outreach, recruitment efforts and ongoing mentorship have been deeply meaningful. We ask you to reconsider your decision to eliminate the men’s/women’s lax teams.

They already lost one year of eligibility and several of my friends on the lacrosse teams male and female are going to transfer if this goes through
