SPOILER ALERT It appears Houghton may decide not to present this petition to the Board (tomorrow Feb 5th?). They have collectively circled the wagons and refuse to have any further conversation on solutions and lessons learned. When any institution goes insular and fails in transparency, and/or when it blocks discussion, this canceling of ideas can build even further advocacy for change. Hopefully new leadership can right the ship. In the meantime, it’s important that potential Students/Families, Instructors, Board members and Donors come in with eyes wide open. Good luck in the future Houghton and God Bless.

I’m a former MAC all conference lacrosse player and if you remove these programs for esports and bowling then that is a disgrace

If the school gets rid of Lacrosse it may end up losing more money then they are trying to save. Not a smart move. If a new sport want to start up start a fund raiser first to see if the support is there first and if it will bring new students into the school. You may have support for a season, but will you have it for the long haul. Keep Lacrosse alive at Houghton College!

Men’s and women’s lacrosse are the fastest growth sports. Houghton College will benefit by attracting good character students. And you should find a way to add other sports without subtraction.

Strictly from a logical standpoint, it would make sense to keep the program because lacrosse is America’s fastest growing high school sport, so the program should continue because it would get larger from more high school athletes, therefore generating more revenue and popularity for the college. Also it provides camaraderie for all of the student athletes in the program.

HC will draw in a lot more students for lacrosse from their states and other hotbed lacrosse states in the east coast than esports and bowling. Which will benefit the college in the long run. Let both teams stay!
