We as a unique community have worked to preserve our historical buildings and I see our former high school as having the same significance as other buildings in Hudson.
I agree we need to update the middle school area and building but there are ways to incorporate the facade into the design.
Please consider this as you move ahead.

Hudson distinguishes itself from so many other communities by priding itself on its care for preserving its history and historic structures. Hudson Schools would be ill advised to remove the 1927 portion of Historic Hudson Middle school for the sake of expediency. Preserving this historic structure through intelligent adaptive re-use is the right course of action for the School District which serves our lovely historic community.

Next year Western Reserve Academy will do a major interior remodel and upgrade of its 102-year-old classroom building, Seymour Hall. An elevator will be added; the wood floors and the grand staircase will be preserved, along with the exterior. The rest will be thoroughly modernized. If they can do that, so can the public school. It is also worth driving by the intersection of Cedar and Lee Roads in Cleveland Heights to see how they are preserving their high school.

As a parent of one former and two current Hudson Middle School students, a close neighbor of the school, an old building steward, and a retired member of The AHBR, I strongly urge HCSD to reconsider demolition.

How does Reserve do it? They keep and use all their older buildings and add new ones in the same style. Keep the 1927 building and use it.

I a proud graduate of the Hudson City Schools, and I have always been proud of the rich history Hudson consists of. Our history is what makes Hudson such a special place. Please consider keeping this significant, historical structure in tact as it not only provides future generations of the Hudson City Schools with insight on our rich history, but the structure seamlessly adds to Hudson's historic streetscape.

Please consider, at the bare minimum, keeping the historic facade. This is imperative to keeping the historic nature of Oviatt Street - a main street in the historic district of this important historic town. See other such schools who have seamlessly added new sections to historic entrances and walls – Cleveland Heights is the closest, best example. We ARE the caretakers of our history. Thank you.

The Hudson City School Administration and the Board of Education should be held the the same expectation as homeowners to preserve the historical fabric of the district.
