Save Healthcare in Harford County

I work at the Klein Family Harford Crisis Center so I see first hand the desperate need for more mental health facilities that offer inpatient beds and other programs geared toward mental health and helping those in our community who are suffering and have nowhere to turn. The new hospital in Aberdeen would be such a great asset to the community. Here, we only have 8 residential beds, and we are constantly referring patients out to different facilities that offer inpatient services, but most facilities are filled to capacity. It would be nice to have more beds at the hospital we already work for. Please take this into consideration. Thank you.

Harford County desperately needs an inpatient unit more centralized in the county than Bel Air. The best possible scenario for this unit is in Aberdeen. This location will also benefit Cecil County as well due to the Inpatient Unit at Harford Memorial receives a large number of it's patients from this county. A dream scenario would be to open a Special Psychiatric Hospital in Aberdeen for adults as well as adolescents since the closest adolescent facilities are either Rockford Center in Delaware or Shepard Pratt in Towson. I understand an adolescent unit is difficult to open so the best place to start would be the Adult Facility in Aberdeen and maybe in time try for an adolescent facility.

The population of Harford county continues to grow and our hospitals need to be able to accommodate that. In terms of mental health it needs to expand exponentially. Patients needing psychiatric help are kept in the Emergency Department for extended periods due to not having enough beds on the behavioral health unit. Wait times in the ED waiting room are so high that people are leaving without receiving care and that makes them lose faith in the whole healthcare system. It is bad patient care and that is unacceptable.

This is a tremendous need in our community. As a paying citizen, I have the right to healthcare.

This is a major need in our community to provide our citizens the appropriate medical care they pay for as citizens.

As a person who suffers with anxiety and depression, I know first hand the importance of having mental health resources available. Every shift I work there is at least one of my patients who suffers with mental health issues. Our community is lacking much needed mental health resources and the new building in Aberdeen would be of great benefit and usage!

Please help us provide quality health care to our community. More and more people are waiting for beds in our hospital and having to wait to be seen in our ER. Having more beds available for the our community will be a great help to citizens on need of health care. Thank-you.

I am a RN who is a floor nurse and who has been with UCMC for over 23 years, and transitioned from Fallston Hospital. We have always been in need for more beds for our inpatients. We consistently have boarders waiting for the appropriate level of care. It pains me to see that we cannot accommodate our families and community when they are in need. We consistently see mental health patients who need the proper accommodations to help them. PLEASE help our community and support our needs!!

Studies show that the need for mental health services will continue to grow - this is an excellent plan to address the community’s needs.

I have been a registered nurse of UMUCH for over 11 years in the Intermediate Care Unit and I primarily work as a charge nurse. We have completely out grown our facility and desperately need more inpatient beds to continue to treat members of our community in our community. Almost every shift I work, I have patients waiting for our beds to empty so another can fill it. Most days, there are patients waiting in the Emergency Department, as boarding patients. Increasing the number of inpatient beds will help increase throughput and decrease Emergency Department wait times. In addition to the need for more inpatient beds, many times patients wait for days for inpatient psychiatric beds. These patients would be better served in a psychiatric unit vs our medical/surgical units once they are medically cleared for psychiatric treatment. I support the new campus

Harford and Cecil counties need and deserve the best mental health treatment they can get. I fear would not to seek the help they need because of the distance they would have to travel to Bel Air, an already over crowded hospital. Keeping the services in Aberdeen, as planned, is better for the community we serve. Do what is right for the people who need us.

Our community needs and deserves the originally submitted plans proposed for development of the psychiatric hospital, as well as the expansion of UCMC. The comfort and care of our patients is top priority, and that starts with appropriately accommodating facilities.

This county is in desperate need of expanded mental health facilities. The Havre de Grace and Aberdeen needs to have this service available at the new Aberdeen location. Thank you!
