As a father of a Gustie graduate, former sport psychologist to Gustie cross country and in particular Head Coach to the Red Wing Nordic high school club, I urge you to keep cross country skiing at Gustavus a NCAA level sport. Non contact and life long sports just as cc skiing are the activities we need to support. CC skiing encourages more involvement and greater physical conditioning. Good physical conditioning encourages better mental and emotional health.

Having a nordic team at Gustavus brings some of the best athletes and people to your University. These athletes are doers, they are leaders, they are great students and without this NCAA level team Gustavus will no longer be bringing these wonderful people to your door. This team brings great benefit and should be reinstated.

As a skiing family, we would like to see Nordic skiing continue in all colleges. It has been a wonderful experience for our children and daughter-in-law, two whom skied at Gustavus and two that skied for St.Olaf. Please consider the enormous impact that Nordic Skiing has had on their and many others lives. thanks!!!!

I have two friends that are both 3 sport captains and high achieving students that any school would be lucky to have. Both of which are skiers. The one thing that set Gustavus apart from other good liberal arts colleges that are more affordable was that Gustavus offers a great ski program. Taking away Nordic Skiing would mean losing two exceptional attributes to Gustavus College.

This is a support that needs to be supported on the college level. I think that what has happened to the team sets a terrible precident. Nordic skiing is indeed a sport practiced at all ages, and encourages overall fitness.

On one hand there is a co-curricular activity home to Olympians and valedictorians — a school investment with proven track-record of attracting and developing top-performing scholar athletes. This would seem like a vital asset to a liberal arts institution and education. On the other hand, we see ever expanding investments into quasi-educational, low-rigor endeavors like “global feminisms,” “interpreting fall landscapes,” or “creating social justice theatre.” Gustavus is dying a self-inflicted death.
