As a high school ski coach I have suggested Gustavus as an option to many of my athletes due to the Nordic ski program. As many are aware the best students in the high school gravitate to Nordic skiing.

I have written a letter to the Gustavus President, and the Athletic Director. I urge all of you to do the same. It is terribly sad that Gustavus, like St. John's and St. Benedicts before it, have elected to eliminate from their varsity program one of only a few lifetime sports, which provides unparalleled fitness and a wonderful community, while maintaining expensive sports programs, whose participants, while laudable for their efforts, have essentially no participatory future beyond college. Nordic skiing, besides providing a healthy pursuit into one's 80's at least, probably also has one of the lowest incidences of serious injury of them all.

Please reinstate the team. A couple of my friends really want to attend guatavus adolphus. This team is highly successful and inexpensive to maintain. This is a poor decision on the part of the school and it should be reversed

I believe the ski team is a beneficial activity for all of the participants as well as the school. PLease consider keeping the ski team active in the Gustavus student body, for those who benefit from being involved with it, and those and benefit from being involved as well as watching the competitions. Thank you

This is a great program and we need more schools in the midwest that offer Nordic Skiing as a collegiate sport.

As an alumni of the Michigan Tech Nordic Ski Team, I've had the pleasure of competing against the Gustavus Nordic Team. They are a valued part of the NCAA Central Region. In 2001-2002, the MTU Nordic team faced a similar crisis and were successful in revitalizing the team and remaining a NCAA varsity team. I hope that the GAC team has similar success.

We have made so much progress on the World cup level with Nordic Skiing. Why are you taking this away as a dream from high school and college athletes. Sports develop young men and women into productive and successful individuals in life. Please reconsider your actions. I am a mother with 2 Olympic sons in Nordic Skiing and we are no longer NCAA and it has been unfortunate on many levels. Thanks Penny Fletcher

A Swedish college with a storied xc skiing tradition decides it doesn't fit their college? This is nonsense.

Gustavus should view Nordic skiing as a way to attract strong students to their college.

I have known several skiers that have been part of the Gustavus program and think it would be a shame to lose another college team.

Cutting sports should never be an option to balance a budget. These student-athletes use the intangible lessons taught to them during their season (coachability, displince, etc.) to make them better workers in the work force, and as a university isn't it your goal to produce these kinds of people?

Students who Nordic ski are some of the best students a college can have. It is short-sighted of the Gustavus to lose those smart and dedicated students to other colleges and universities.
