As a former coach at a local university, it is dismaying to see cuts in athletic programs, especially those that strengthen the community and don't focus entirely on the sports that provide short term financial gain.

Cutting the Gustavus Nordic Ski Team is devastating for current and future athletes who no longer have the opportunity to excel in both academics and athletics. Save the GAC ski team!

I'm an eighteen-year high school Nordic ski coach, and was also involved in high school and college athletics. I am also a high school physics teacher. I feel as though I can speak from multiple legitimate stances about the value of athletics, especially athletics that people can sustain throughout their lives. In the classroom, I understand the correlation between academic performance and a student's sense of place in their school. Simply put, when one feels truly a part of their school, they are more likely to invest their efforts in all aspects of their school experience, including academics and healthy social relationships. Ski teams in general are fairly self-sustaining, and require fewer resources than other high school and college teams. The investment in and support of the ski team is a worthwhile endeavor. To say that eliminating this team was a decision based solely on what is good for GAC is s

Gustavus stands to lose quality students who are bright, high achieving, hard working young people who will go on to become the kind of alumni who give significantly to the world while wearing GUS on their sleeve, back, and lapel. They also give money to the college. You see these high school kids are looking for the opportunity to compete at the intercollegiate level and will look for colleges who offer more than just a club.

It's a terrible shame to lose such a wonderful opportunity. I urge Gustavus to reconsider this decision.

I urge you to reconsider this decision. Fielding an NCAA Nordic ski team distinguished you from similar schools in the Midwest!

I hope that the future interests of Gustavus intend to support the hardworking, passionate, dedicated people that ARE the Nordic ski team.
Nordic skiing is a great sport and was always a highlight throughout my high school carrer

We believed Gustavus was a community that felt strongly about growing and learning inside and outside of the classroom. Nordic ski has done that for my son. He has learned so much about himself, teamwork, dedication, leadership and balance through the sport. Please do not cut the Nordic ski program at Gustavus.

Nordic Skiing is a sport just like any other sport at GAC. So why take it away?

The GAC ski team plays an important role in fulfilling Gustavus' mission of helping students to achieve their full potential. Losing the ski team at GAC is a blow not only to the members of the team past and present but to the state of Minnesota and the skiing community in the United States.

The skiers from ypur team have worked hard to get where they are at today. Skiing is a individual sport with a team spirit and they deserve the right to complete in the sort that they have been recruited for.
