Nordic skiing is a very competitive sport. These athletes are very disciplined and amazing athletes.

Though I am not a skier, the "justification" of this decision will be influential on my future donations because some of my best friends are skiers and without them (friends) Gustavus would mean very little to me.

Keep a fully funded nordic program...good for the mind , body, and appreciation of nature.

As a member of the CSB/SJU club nordic ski team, I truly see the effects of being cut on my teammates who were a member of the NCAA ski team at CSB/SJU. This terrible decision will significantly affect the community of your school and the sport of Nordic Skiing in Minnesota. Minnesota, of all places is blessed with remarkable ski trails and the strongest high school skiing program in the county and with very little support from collegiate school are athletes are left with no choice but to leave Minnesota to pursue their dreams and goals. This is not the message we want to send to the skiing community. College skiing at the NCAA level should be a way to continue skiing and improve upon ones abilities. I urge you to please re-consider your decision as it will leave lasting effects on the skiers and the community.

Nordic Skiing needs to stay a team, they are one of the hardest working and least acknowledged sports on campus.

I'm sick and tired of hearing colleges cutting sports programs without any good reasons. They specifically denied any reasons that would make any sense and are simply saying they don't feel like having a Nordic program anymore.

If Gustavus had my major, I would probably be there skiing!! Wish others could have the opportunity!

I attend Macalester College, and varsity skiing was removed as a sport about 10 years ago here too. I understand the desire to have a competitive team, I hope everything works out!

It is unfortunate to learn that Nordic Skiing is being cut at Gustavus Adolphus College. I sincerely hope that this decision will be reversed and the program reinstated.

This is not "Gustie Pride" I am feeling. This is not the "Rebuilding a Better Gustavus" that was talked about in Lund Center in 1998 as we get ready to remember the tornado that hit campus. I thought that "we" were better but I guess "we" are becoming "the norm". Class of '01.

This decision does not affect me directly, but I know the significance this holds for my cousin and his teamates. I hope the decision is reconsidered and the interests of the student athletes taken into consideration as a part of the interests of the college.

I hope this decision is reversed and the GAC student-athletes will be able to continue competing in the CCSA as strongly as the have in the past. Quality coach, skiers, and students!!

I can't express how truly disappointed I am at the administration for making this decision. If they had ever been to a ski race they would have been able to see the amazing camaraderie that exists between the athletes in this sport. These connections are ones that last a lifetime and on more than one occasion have landed people jobs after graduation. It's a shame that the school is throwing away something so great. Skiing is one of the few things that keeps me going through the hard exam periods and course work. There is a mental clarity that is created, and much needed for surviving school; this is one of the reasons why skiers often times have the highest GPA's within the athletic departments. Please re-consider this decision. You may be gaining more financial stability, but you placing a price on mental stability and happiness of your students, consider what you will be losing as well.
